Fuel level Gauge

I'm puzzled - Why is it that my fuel guage reads the opposite of what is actually happening in the tank. I thought it would be best for me to first trial the sender and gauger before fixing it in to position.

the sender I have is a swing arm type - bought from ETB to work with the gauge they also supplied.

The gauge reads full when arm is dropped and empty when the gauge is lifted...

I have sent an email off to ETB to ask for there assistance - Just wandering if anyone here has experienced this problem before?

RE: Fuel level Gauge

That happened to me too - despite being a smiths sender and gauge, unfortunately my arm is not the wrong way round, and can't be changed around - doh!! x(
Slightly more fortunately a lash up bit of electronics kind of remedies the problem.

RE: Fuel level Gauge

Just wondering how accurate these fuel guages are meant to be? Not that I'm blaming the person who fitted it (brother-in-law) but it appears that the guage only registers half full when the tank is full! It seems to stay there for quite a while and then moves like a minute hand as the last quarter is being used. Any ideas on improving this or is this just a quirk?

RE: Fuel level Gauge

It all depends upon the sender arm you have.

The arm I had is supposed to be positioned vertically halfway down in the tank as when the arm is horizontal the gauge would read 1/2.

To do this I had to chop the support column (can't think what else to call it) by about 3". So as that when the top is secured in to the tank the sender unit is correctly positioned.

The other adjustment to be made was the length of the arm which on my sender is held in place by a single screw. I adjusted the length to allow the full motion of the sender within the tank. Too long it would cap the readings and too short it would extend the readings.

I checked the operation of the arm outside of the tank by marking the tank (1/4,1/2 & 3/4) and moving the arm to each position and checking the gauge readout.
