| Ford Sierra Clutch Quadrant... I havn't been posting for a while because I've locked myself away in the garage ain a desperate bid to get the car finished. I seem however to be taking 3 steps backward for every step I make. All I can say is that the next Cobra I build is going to be easy. I was driving the car around my driveway checking that nothing serious is the matter with it before I cacoon it in fibreglass. My clutch quadrant must have been worn out because it slips. The one I have is Yellow. I have been informed of a larger (possibly white) quadrant that can be used in place of the standard article. Would any one happen to know the partnumber for this larger quadrant? more importantly would any one know how much larger this quadrant is? Thanks all for your input... | RE: Ford Sierra Clutch Quadrant... Pete, does this quadrant give more cable movement when pedal pressed ? I need to get a bit more movement of the clutch fork to work properly and hope this is the answer! Norm |

RE: Ford Sierra Clutch Quadrant... Hi Norm Yes the larger quadrant will give more cable movement, but by virtue of the fact that the cable has to travel around a larger radius it effectively becomes shorter, so just make sure that when fitted there is enough room left on the quadrant for the self adjuster mechanism to work correctly Hope this makes sense, if it does'nt I will try a different explanation Pete

RE: Ford Sierra Clutch Quadrant... Thanks pete, makes perfect sense and sounds like just the ticket! Boy, what would we do without this club??? :7 :7

RE: Ford Sierra Clutch Quadrant... Thanks Pete, Are they Ford part numbers? any idea on how much larger radius that quadrant has? The reason I ask is that I popped in to my local motor factor and they only had brand B for a sierra - about a 2-3mm larger radius. Don't know if it's the extra size or the fact it's not worn - but it seems to be working ok. Dan 'Were all these nuts used before' Man www.cobra.kitcar.btinternet.co.uk

RE: Ford Sierra Clutch Quadrant... Dan Can't really give you dimensions because I don't have two quadrants to compare. I do know from experience that the large white one is only available from Ford dealers The number quoted is the Ford finis code or to you and me the part number, I purchased one on the 27th june 2002 so the price should be correct From memory there is quite a substantial difference in size Hope this helps Pete

RE: Ford Sierra Clutch Quadrant... I don't really understand how the self adjuster is meant to work. When I depress my pedal, the pedal moves a short distance on its own, and then the slack on the quadrant seem to be taken up - pedal and quadrant then move as one unit, and so starts pulling the cable inner round into the grooove on the quadrant. Is this correct? How do you know if its working properly? I have a red quadrant - any ideas if this is big or little in terms of radius? Kevin

RE: Ford Sierra Clutch Quadrant... Kevin, I will attempt to explain. Imagine that you have the pedal assembly fitted without a cable. The self adjuster is a small piece of Nylon with Teeth on (about 3) which is spring loaded to be pushed against the teeth on the Quadrant. It acts as a ratchet. Allowing movement in one direction but not the other. When the pedal is fully depressed - Infact sometimes in needs to be pulled forward. The Self adjuster mechanism is released - As a peg in the pedal housing pushes the adjuster off the quadrant. This allows you to push the quadrant back far enough to enable you to loop the cable over the end. There is a big dirty ol' spring from the Quadrant to pedal. This has the effect of making the quadrant pull the cable - You will feel the effect when you try to push the quadrant up to fit the cable. When you push the pedal you will hear the Ratchet click away until the preasure being applied to the pedal is greater than the strength of the big ol spring. You may need to push the pedal a couple of time slowly to get the ratchet to take out the slack. You should have a clutch pedal that is actuating as soon as preasure is applied. The Larger the Quadrant the more cable is taken up. Dan 'Were all these nuts used before' Man www.cobra.kitcar.btinternet.co.uk

RE: Ford Sierra Clutch Quadrant... Thanjs Dan, I think I;ve got the jist of what you mean. I'll take a look when I get my cob tranported down to the new place later this week. Sounds like the ratchet hasnt engaged properly on my pedal assembly Anyone got any comments on the clutch performance of a red quadrant? Kevin
