Fans.

Hi.

Looking for some advice on the most suitable size cooloing fan for the AK.
It`ll be running a mildly tuned Rover V8 3.5. I`m getting the standarad sdi rad re-cored and presure tested etc. but am unsure of the size fan to use 12",16" one fan or two smaller ones?
Any advice wellcomed.
Also for any AK builders what arrangement have you used for the brake warning light switch did you use the one in the pedal box or plumb one into the brake lines, if you`ve got any photos I would be gratefull.

Cheers. Tony.

RE: Fans.

Hi Tony
On my AK which is also going to use a mildly tuned rover I will be useing a standard rover radiator with a 16" fan which I am told is all that is really neccesary. As far as the brake warning light goes this has to run off the switch which should be on top of the brake fluid resovwire ( yes I know I can't spell ) which if you are useing a marina peddle box like me probbably wont have one .Ken says the best thing to do is go around a scrapyard and find one that will fit. by the way have you got your build wheels yet as my brother in law lives in Heath and Reach and might have a set to sell if you are interested I think he will only wan't £30 or so but if you are interested I will speak to him and let you have his number.
Got my kit 2 Months ago so I can still remember what I feels like the closer the time comes to pick up the kit .All the best

RE: Fans.

Hi Tony
I also use a 16" fan which seems to cope well. Its also a good idea to have a header tank of reasonable size as this increases your coolant capacity & aids cooling. Having said that, I still find that I need to run without a thermostat as on the hot days the old temp. creeps up pretty quick

Cheers

Sounds like there's something not quite right there. Is your radiator scaled up at all? Any problems with the airflow through the radiator?

RE: Fans.

I did not think a warning system was required for sva, as when I phoned them up they said as long as the resovoir has see through plastic with min and max that would be ok????

RE: Fans.

Graham.

When I had the Tiger sva`d last year it was a requirement to have a low brake fluid warning light visible to the driver in the cockpit. Some form of testing the light ie. pressing the switch on the fluid cap was also required.I wired it into the handbrake on warning light which was ok. This was March 2001 at Leighton Buzzard and as far as I`m aware it still stands.

RE: Fans.

Martin.
Got the build wheels sorted thanks.
Oddly enough my engine came from Heath & Reach, actually the whole car.Bought from a guy who didn`t really appreciate what he had, a rover sdi 1976 with only 21k on the clock, had been stored in garage for 10 yrs.Only wanted £450 for it nearly bit his arm off.

RE: Fans.

Hi,

Ive put 2 cobras through the sva this year and as far as the brake fluid warning light is concerned it has to come on when the fluid is low i.e. a switch on top of the reserviour. And there has to be a method of testing it from the drivers seat. This is usually on the handbrake on production cars. I would guess that the chap you spoke to was refering to the washer bottle not the brake fluid!

Tony

If as Martin asked, you are useing a Marina pedal box, a Ford Sierra master cylinder cap fits and works perfect.

RE: Fans.

Oh dear, then I have been mis-led by the helpline at Swansea. Does anyone know of a fluid cap with the electrical bit on it for an MGB servo. (Or complete resovoir swap) What about Mini/marina etc.
