Speedo Sensor location.

Hi Guys,

I see the end in sight, Just a few little jobs to be done here and there. One of them being the fittment of my electromagnetic speedo sensor. The Type I have picks up the magnetic field of a couple of magnets placed on the propshaft.

Where have people attached there sender unit? I have run the wires for this down the offside of the car and down to the diff area just infront of the fuel tank.

I guess I will need to make up a bracket to hold the sensor in place...

RE: Speedo Sensor location.

I have used 4x 3mm dia cobolt magnets (very strong and very small) attached to the propshaft flange by drilling a 3mm hole to the depth of a couple of mm then gluing the magnets in (they hold themselves in anyway - but glue was an extra precaution.
Fortunately on an AK there is a couple of handy exhaust mounting brackets onto which the sensor bracket (that I made up) can be bolted.

RE: Speedo Sensor location.

Pilgrim supply a template for a bracket that fits over the top of the front of the diff. It is bolted either side where the diff is fixed to the mounting bracket.

I have a template for it if you need one. I can scan it and send it to you if you wish.

Tony B

RE: Speedo Sensor location.

Hi Dan.

Mine is as Stuarts on the prop shaft flange. I've not bothered to drill the flange though. I have stuck them on with 24 hour setting epoxy resin as recommended in the instructions that came with the speedo sensor. However like Stuart points out they are really strong magnets.

I have no fear of them coming off anyway. The flange itself is the best place because you know it is definately NOT going to move.

Oh... hang on a minute... sorry you are building a pilgrim. Is it with Siera running gear? If so... sorry mate, I don't know what I'm talking about.

Stuart you should know better. Go to the back of the class.

Regards

RE: Speedo Sensor location.

Of course if you use a Jag XJS LSD (late model) they come with a magnet pick-up already fitted in the aluminium diff cover and you don't need to mess around with sticky magnets

Wilf old boy,

Your mind must being going, or at least going in a different direction to mine. Quite what my very attractive young lady friend has got to do with me driving a RAM is not immediately obvious to me.

BTW picked up new block, pistons, rods, custom cast cylinder heads, Dellorto manifolds with Nitrous injection ports etc last weds. Soon to be 5.2L 500hp plus 200 HP of squeeze. Sub-ten quarter according to Mr gaskets simulator, 0-60 in 2.4 seconds!!! Get in the garage and get on with it.

RE: Speedo Sensor location.

Sounds like a serious piece of kit, let me know where/when you are going to run it.
