RE: Ford Windsor Engine Number

Glynn - sorry to take so long to get back to you.

I can't make any sense of the numbers you have quoted.
Block ID code and casting date should be on the lhs (as viewed from the front), on the side, towards the rear of the block, above the starter area, fairly low down, an inch or so above the oil sump rail. What is there?

Hi Wilf ,

Thanks for replying. I've been away so I didn't get to look at it. Anyway. The code on the bloack as you decribed is 0E7 and close by but not on the sump rail is 85. What do you reckon?

Many thanks and regards,

Glynn

RE: Ford Windsor Engine Number

Sorry Glynn, I still cannot make anything out of those numbers.

If you look in the tech tips section in the lobby, there is a section about engine numbers, see if anything else you can find makes sense. You could also look at the front of the block, on a ledge just above the waterpump and to the right of the distributor "hole", on a casting ledge level with the top of the block.

RE: Ford Windsor Engine Number

Ford castig numbers/letters are under where the starter bolts in.

The first two digits of virtually all Ford parts indicate the year of the vehicle it was on, or made for. The first digit is a letter, B, C, D, E, indicating the decade. C='60's, D='70's, E=80's, etc. The second digit is the year.

Look under the starter for a block casting number. If the first two digits are C9, it's a '69. If D2, it's a '72, etc.
