RE: Sierra Rad Question

The diesel radiator is fine, depends what you need the extra holes for. It has the best cooling capacity of all the Sierra radiators and that is why it is the best one to use.

With the Granada radiator; if you mean run the oil through the radiator to cool it then that won't be posible for a few reasons. Would possibly be able to fit a water/oil cooler between the block and the oil filter and run water through that, but I think it would need some form of propulsion for the water to flow. The 2.9 runs quite cool anyway and with all the space in the engine bay for air to circulate I wouldn’t imagine you would need an oil cooler.

Hope this is of help,
Andy

RE: Sierra Rad Question

The rad I have has two additional holes to connect the expansion tank, but if you work cleverly, you should be able to plumb in the expansion tank from other locations on the water route. A simple T-section in two places (one high, one low) will do the trick.

RE: Sierra Rad Question

If you have bought asecond hand rad then in my opinion you have wasted your money. no matter how many holes its got. The sierra 2,3 Diesel is the right rad and works realy well, but I,d chuck it and get a new one. Its one of the most important items you have to buy and once in they are a bugger to get out. There are mods you can make to make getting it out easier but thats another story. So I would give myself a fighting chance a start life with a new one.

RE: Sierra Rad Question

Kelvin water from the hotest part of the engine (the head area) flows through the top end of the radiator gets cooled and returns through the bottom hose. If you put your header tank in the top hose section this should be okay.

My rad has a sepderate input from the header tank; but it all ammounts to the same thing, keeping the radiater topt up!! I also have a expantuion tank which keeps the header tank suplied, makes sure the system is always full. The real crunch re engines is if you have a 3/4/5 core rad for your particular aplication. All the best Eric.:7
