Wiring the Horn in the Steering boss.

I've bought myself a smaller 12" steering wheel. The Boss adaptor has a center horn. Now what I can;t work out is how to connect the wires I have to the center horn with out them getting wrapped up when the wheel is turned. Am I being stupid or is there a solution?

RE: Wiring the Horn in the Steering boss.

Dan,

For the Sierra steering wheels with centre horn there should be two pins that protrude from the top of the boss. These two pins contact with the two copper circles on the back of the steering wheel. The pins fit into a small plastic holder on the boss. I can send you a picture later if you need it.

Wiring it this way, the wires are stationary and so do not get wrapped up.

Cheers,
Tony B

RE: Wiring the Horn in the Steering boss.

For those slightly behind the power curve - how do I connect the 2 pins to something sensible on the motolita on my Dax when I have long since lost the Sierra one with the copper tracks - do I need to re-create them and if so advise appreciated? Jon

RE: Wiring the Horn in the Steering boss.

You can only turn the wheel so far thus . . .eventually it has too go the other way.

so as long as you use a flexible wire available from maplins or rs and give some slack inside the boss there isn't a problem.

RE: Wiring the Horn in the Steering boss.

Lock to lock there are only about 4 - 5 complete turns of the wheel (I think) so all you have to do is ensure that there is enough wire from the column to the horn switch to allow the wires to be crossed 4 -5 times, and then a little more to be safe.

Think that should work.

RE: Wiring the Horn in the Steering boss.

I got around the problem in the end by not using a boss mounted horn - instead I have mounted a push button on the dash - although it's a bit of hassle to get at if an emergency beep is required so I may send another feed to the boss and have both.

RE: Wiring the Horn in the Steering boss.

My thought of the day - just maybe..............
You could use a piece of "virgin" electrical circuit board - I seem to remember you can etch so that the tracks remain when you make one - so therefore if you cut one to the right diameter with a hole in, ectched the two tracks - you could use the Sierra contacts and your Motolita centre push(just a little soldiering to thecircuit board)???
Does anyone know where I can get the bits - probably Maplin (will check this evening)?
