How much paint

Been offered 2 Litres of extreme rainbow paint plus lacquer and hardener for a very good price.Need to know if 2 litres will cover a cobra. Not worried about lacquer can always get more as required but dont want to get car half painted and run out or rainbow. Also is there a shelf life for the paint as I may not do it for a year or so.

RE: How much paint

Steve,

Don't really know coz I'm not a painter. But I can tell you how much mines got on it though. 5 litres of Blue on the top, 4 liters of silver underneath and 10 liters of lacquer. I asked the paint rep and thats how much he suppplied and my painter used. Why not give someone who does lots of Cobs (eg SMS) a ring and ask them?

Russ

RE: How much paint

From experience I have found ‘use by’ dates stamped on the side of paint cans. Don’t know if this is a requirement but worth looking for.

RE: How much paint

Steve , two litres of top coat should be enough. A lot depends on the correct colour base coat you put below it, rather than the ammounts of top coates before laquer. Including primers and the like & three coates of lac my car took 12 litres!! Hope this helps Eric?

RE: How much paint

Steve you can always get some more made up if its not enough, I have a paint shop local to me who I know very well. The paint code should be on the tin, you could alway mix old with new, just in case of previous mixing mistakes. They now go to all the shows, Colour Match Centre High Wycombe. All these other guys seem to have used a lorra lorra lacquuer not sure where they have put it all!! REgards Eric

Eight coats, on the top where YOU can see it AND on the underneath where YOU can't (but I know it's there and get a good look when I polish the underneath!)

RE: How much paint

Well Russell Ram, I can tell you live north of Watford!! Its quite obvious you like getting underneath; I think they call that knacker laqueur, not bulls #####!!

I think the first comments you made WERE CORRECT!!(I am not a painter!!) I think perhaps your paint rep was rubbing his hands when you came along!! The guy that sprayed your car had enough left over too spray two busses!! You live and learn I suppose? Eric.:7 :7 :7

"I think perhaps your paint rep was rubbing his hands when you came along!!"

I think NOT, (PPG Deltron) all FOC.

"The guy that sprayed your car had enough left over too spray two busses!!"

Also not, I have what was left at home and it's not much.

But if you're happy with a quick "blow this over, mate" with a couple of liters, thats up to you I suppose.

"You live and learn I suppose"

Yep, you do.

Russ
