Fuel Pump for Rover V8 EFi.

More help needed.

Does anybody know what Fuel Pump I can use on my Sumo with Rover V8 lump, EFi?
I've tried RPi and they can't help. The only fuel pump they do for injected engines is gravity fed (i.e. fuel tank has feed-line coming from the bottom) and the Sumo tank has the fuel coming from the top. I need a "draw" type high pressure fuel pump and suitable mounting bracket - any ideas?

RE: Fuel Pump for Rover V8 EFi.

As far as I know such a beast doesn't exist, I did look, please let me know if you find one!!! The problem as I understand it is the high flow and pressure requires a type of pump that will not suck very well x( I had a few problems with my pump when I first fitted it, these pumps do not like running dry at all, and are very intolerant of debris from the fuel tank. I got through three pumps in all and could not repair any of them x( x( x( Touch wood it's ok now.

regards
Kev

Hi Kev,

So what pump did you use, where did you mount it, and how did you get it to work?

RE: Fuel Pump for Rover V8 EFi.

I got a modified fuel tank with a bottom fuel outlet pipe, 0.5 inch diameter, and fitted a standard EFI fuel pump just behind the diff. However, a thought occurs :+ you could fit a standard low pressure electric fuel pump, feed the outflow to the bottom of a small capacity tank , take an outlet from the top of the tank back to your main fuel tank and hey presto you have a recirculating low pressure fuel flow from the main tank into a small tank. Mount the small tank relatively high somewhere and put the high pressure pump to the base of that, return the high pressure line to the top and youv'e got a small reservoir of fuel that won't run dry and best of all, as the main tank starts to get low you won't run into fuel starvation on spirited driving as the fuel surges, like I get with my setup. You would also minimise the run of high pressure fuel and confine it to one area, minimising the risk of a fuel leak. A suitable tank can be found in Demon tweeks catalogue, this can be fitted into the engine bay for ease of access. I guess you could also fit only a supply to the small tank and vent the top of the tank with a carburrettor float assembly but I,m not sure I'd want to try that myself.

Just a thought but I'm sure it'd work
regards
Kev

RE: Fuel Pump for Rover V8 EFi.

Hi Steve,

I was once at RPI and they had a Sumo in that wouldnt run for very long, they eventually found the problem to be the pump not being gravity fed. Unfortunatly the only solution was to remove the tank and modify it so as it did gravity feed the pump. Another solution would be to fit a pump in the tank, like a landrover pump! But again this would probably mean modifying the tank!
Looks like you have no option but to get the tank sorted. Do Pilgrim offer a tank that has this facility? I know they do fit ford V6 injection engines, these must have a gravity fed pump.
Phil
