Dax stuff

Probably a post directed mostly at David Brookes, but who knows.
I want to get the windscreen wiper mechanism soon. Which mini is the most favourable to get the mechanism from and what mods are required to achieve correct sweep, distance etc?
ALSO, I have just has a 2" single roll hoop made for me. What I want to know is the total height from top of body to the outer top of hoop. Does it usually come up as high as the top of the windscreen or is there a specific dimension? Perhaps someone with an AK could answer this one as theirs look about right.

Thanks guys

David

:*
P.S. Nearly forgot. Has anyone had any difficulty fitting a Brasscraft screen to a Dax? (or is it Autobrass? You know, the guy in Devon.)

RE: Dax stuff

Hi David.
All Mini wiper systems are the same.
They come with a 110 degree gear as std, this will work but a 130 degree gear is better (Better overlap in the middle).
Usually the plug that connects the motor to the loom falls apart when you try to unplug it, i would advise that you do this at the breakers cos if you cut the wires and try to do it later you may have problems getting your money back.
The plug that breaks are about £15 new.
The 130 degree gear is about £20 from Dax.
You can modify the mini wheelboxes to fit a little better (The angle at which they poke through the scuttle aint so good)or you can buy new ones with chrome tops from Dax for about £30 the pair.
If you do use the 110 degree gear then you will be better having the wipers park towards the drivers side, this way around you will lose some of the sweep on the passenger side and not in front of yourself when you are driving.
You can get a brand new wiper motor, worm gear and i think wheel boxes from Martini Spares (07798 722366) for about £75, they were at the Donington show in the tent......The tent without the Ultimas in.:7
If they don't come with tubing you can use copper tubing from a plumbers merchants but you will need the bundy nut, if this is not in the set from Martini Spares you will have to get one from a breakers.
My advice:- Try to get a wiper setup from a breakers, if the ones you find are all knackered then still get the bundy nut (It holds the tube to the motor).
Give me a call tomorrow day time i will measure a single Dax roll bar on a car that i'm currently building if you like (07785 702005)
I have fitted to date 51 screens from Dave at Autobrass and only ever broken one x(
And that was my fault and it was no. 51 (two days ago)
His screens come with two pre drilled holes in the pillars, i cut the pillar off just below the top hole and drill another top hole about 3to4 inches further up (This helps fit the Dax brackets better).

Dave. Do you ever build anything other than your signature? Or when you build summut different do you forget to change the spec?

RE: Dax stuff

Hi Vince.
The spec has changed since i used that signature but when i tried to change the signature it wouldn't let me.........I think i'll try and change it again now.
Usually the spec is near enough the same but i'm using Tremecs these days as finding T5s and then getting them re-cond. is an increasing nightmare.

RE: Dax stuff

Good to see Dave and technology being pushed to the limit again. Now what was the 0-10mph times of the shopping trolley?

Are they quickest in Asda or Sainsburys?

RE: Dax stuff

The serious world record attempts are staged by husbands at the end of the shopping session and must relate to the better traction available between the checkout and exit door. The call of 'Allelujia' must also inspire the speed. Female drag times are found to be more successful at the beginning of a session. Maximum braking efficiency is found at M & S corner adjacent to the lingerie counter.
Mike.

RE: Dax stuff

Thanks for your threads guys, and to Micket and Dave especially. I have considered yor measurement Dave, but as I am using a 2" tube, I don't think it will look tall enough, so I am making the initial measurement of 12". I can always cut off, rather than put on. The AK looks nice with 11", so this will probably be the one yo go for.
