Jag Series 3 ?

I have finally taken delivery of a GD427Jag chassis Nbr 190.
After much thought and research very happy with the choice.

I have a question, I hope someone my shed light on.
I know that I need the running gear from a Jag serise 1.2.or 3 (pref a series 3)
for the build, yesterday I have been offered a Jag XK6 1988/89 E reg for a reasonable amount of folding.

I am concerned that this mark is actually a XJ40 version of the 'XJ6' model ,as yet I have not seen it as it is about 160 miles away, and if so are the components of front & rear suspension,Diff and steering column compatible with the GD jag chassis build requirements?

I look forward to CRC replies...

Many thank from a new GD cob to be......

David Cotterell

RE: Jag Series 3 ?

Hi David, welcome aboard.
The jags we all need went out of production in around 1985 unless you would be using an XJS as a donor.

RE: Jag Series 3 ?

David,

Your looking for inboard discs at the rear. If they are outboard then the Jag is too late a model.

If you need to take some snaps feel free to come round, alternativly I'll come round and we can go for a gentle country drive (that's what SWMBO gets told :7 )

Regards

Jim

Dave
XJ40 - XJ6 has a completly differnt rear suspension and the frt is differnet
except for a couple of small parts (I think the ball joints are interchangeable)

Very late Series III- XJ6 & 12 have every thing you would need including LSD as standard and i think that the very last XJS did have out board rear disc's
which is a rear Plus :9

RE: Jag Series 3 ?

Not to sure about outboard discs on XJS - BUT if you ever find an Aston Martin DB7 the rear suspension is identical to XJ series except for outboard disc brakes. Haven't found one in a scrappies yet though

SSHH! Maybe the poor fellows that paid a shed load of money for their DB7 don't want to be reminded or informed that what they've bought is really a twenty year old car design.
I am beginning to think that there's enough of us at the well known Coventry luxury car maker to start our own Cobra club.

cheers

I know, that might be why the suspension is the same!
