Richfiled RX1190 Seats In a MKII Sumo

Propably a dumb question.... but do Richfiled RX1190's fit a MKII Sumo OK, measurement wise looks OK but conformation from expirience would give me a warmer feel before I part with my pocket money.

RE: Richfiled RX1190 Seats In a MKII Sumo

When I fitted my rather non-standard Cobra Roadster7 seats I got europa to lend me one (which they did without any trouble) to see if it would fit ok in my AK, initially went through an extensive measuring phase with both Cobra Seats and Europa - decided it would be close on fit and SVA seat base to seatbelt mounting height, so decided the best way was to try it. They fitted perfectly (at least I think so!) in the end.
Might want to try borrowing one (well actually I think I bought it temporarily on the basis that I'd definitely return it - Europa were fine with that) from Europa or Richfield.

Stuart.

Hi Stuart I think it was your car that i saw at the AK oped day I liked the look of your seat's, in fact so much so that I have just ordered a pair. I was origionally looking for a set of seats with head rests but I also wanted more of a bucket seat and when I saw yours Problem solved. Did you have any problems fitting them, or need anything other than the standard runners for them. By the way what was Ken's reaction . x( x( x( x(

RE: Richfiled RX1190 Seats In a MKII Sumo

Hi Martin,
Seats fitted on standard Cobra seat runners no problem, I was a bit worried about the height for the SVA (from the base to seatbelt mouting) but this was all ok. Two things which I also changed to suit the seats were the handbrake needs to go on the side next to the transmission tunnel, this is pretty easy but you need a shorter handbrake cable from speedy cables - I actually much prefer the handbrake there compared to the standard position. The other slightly more tricky one is that the roll bar on the AK is slightly too far towards the middle of the car (you dont notice this unless you have high backed seats!!) so I moved them apart a bit (I have two) so that the outer leg of the roll bar is now just about completely outside of the boot tub - for this I needed ken to knock me up some special roll bar brackets (which he did just fine) - also as I'd also as I'd made the holes for the original roll bar (only one of them at the time fortunately) I had to fill in the original holes - doh!!
Ken and Dan don't seem to like them too much - I think Jon likes them slightly better!!

Stuart

Hi Stuart
Thanks for that I don't suppose that you have any photoes of the roll bar setup that you could post ?? The bit about the hand brake, did you move thas just because you prefer it on the left or was their a problem with it on the right. I'm a bit concerned about the amount of bend in the cable if i route it this way. Some how I didn't thing Ken or Dan would like this setup much, but thought John would also be against it as well. I'll have to explain to them, this is the only way ( high back seats) that my wife is prepaired to go touring around Europ. If I ask Ken about the mods will he know what I maen ?x( x( or will I have to pay them a visite. Reading your post again quickly which holes did you have to fill in don't say the roll bar ones as I already have all 4 cut outx( x( x( x( x(

RE: Richfiled RX1190 Seats In a MKII Sumo

Haven't got any photos at the moment I'll see if I can sort some out.
You have to put the handbrake on the other side otherwise it doesn't clear the wing on the seat - I'll try and sort some photos of this too. All you need to do is get the handbrake bracket AK give you, bolt it onto the bolt which hold the tub onto the chassis rail in the corner by the transmission tunnel, then add an extra M10 bolt to stop it moving - the shorter handbrake cable has a run at least as good if not better than the original position as it is well clear of the wheels without needing any tight bends. As a bonus, it put the handle where I actually wanted it anyway. You do need a shorter cable though (wasn't very expensive), I'll see if I can dig out the information I sent ken for the brackets and the drawings I sent speedy cables.
Ken and Dan will know exactly what I've done as they've had the car in for diff work for a while recently, and were also well involved in getting all my non-standard bits sorted in the first place, and have studied and disapproved of my seats regularly!!
Unfortunately it is the roll bar holes I had to move!! doh!! Fortunately for me I'd only made two of them at the time.
I didn't want to be smacking the base of my skull into the tub or get really bad whiplash if I was unfortunate enough to crash - personally I think low backed bucket seats in a performance car are not a good thing no matter how 'authentic' thay may be.

RE: Richfiled RX1190 Seats In a MKII Sumo

Hi Stuart, youve "converted" me to the idea of Roadster 7 seats whilst reading thru, have you any piccy's yet ?, the reason I ask is that I had planned to make the car look 60's style and I'm interested to see how the roadsters "fit in", I'm planning to go for all black to keep the impact as low as possible.

Thanks

Mike

Oops sorry - forgot!! - I shall endeavour to borrow a digital camera asap and get them done for you this week at the latest. The black leather ones with the perforated black leather centres look pretty good - bit expensive though.
