| Do braided hoses improve the brake feel ? Right, its about time I sorted out the miserable feel of my brake pedal!. The Mk II Sumo uses the Marina Master Cylinder as do a few other kits. Does everyone else find this beasty a B@@88er to bleed (or is it just me?) & what differences have people noted when changing to braided brake hoses ?. Pete.

| RE: Do braided hoses improve the brake feel ? Hi Pete Braided hoses will certainly give you more braking for less pedal pressure as there is little of no give in the hoses, unlike the standard ones. However braided hoses will not resolve a poorly bleed or badly maintained braking system. I'm not suggesting your system is either of these, he quickly adds, but don't spend lots of money on hoses if the problem is elsewhere. Regs John |

| RE: Do braided hoses improve the brake feel ? Pete, I have some second hand braided hoses if you want to stick them on just to try them out. If you want them or need a hand bleeding please give me a yell and i'll pop over Kelvin |

| RE: Do braided hoses improve the brake feel ? The main purpose for braided lines I have found is, in hot weather, it stops the brake lines that are rubber from expanding when you put your foot on the brake (more noticable on my motorcycle). As for improve feel, I guess this can depend on the weather as rubber brake lines don't expand that much in the cold. Another plus point for braided lines is that they have greater durability, and also look good. Tony B --- http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tony.breski |

| RE: Do braided hoses improve the brake feel ? The Marina master cylinder is used on the AK. Or it was until very recently at least. I had a real problem bleeding the brakes on mine until I spoke with Ken at AK. He recommended an easibleed system. This worked really well for me. Well worth the 10 or so quid. | RE: Do braided hoses improve the brake feel ? Vince I am in the middle(well at the beginning) of an under bonnet refit.I will be replacing all visible brake hose with braided.Do you know wether I can remove the reservior from the marina master cylinder and pipe it to a remote.Mine is right up under the wing and can only be filled with a syringe with a hose attatched.I would also like to do the same with the clutch. The new master I bought for that has a plastic reservior and I'm hoping I can remove it and thread the hole.Anyone any thoughts. Regards Steve G.

| RE: Do braided hoses improve the brake feel ? take a look at the BGCmotorsport.co.uk website, it may give you some ideas as to whats available. My Dax uses one remote reservoir, which feeds both clutch and brake masters which are tucked under the wing. The reservoir is mounted on the scuttle panel where it can be filled no probs. | RE: Do braided hoses improve the brake feel ? I have to admit my scepticism about these brake lines. I am unsure if the difference in "feel" is actually "feel-able" for most of us driving in normal shoes (i.e. not race boots). Are we sure we are talking about anyhting more substantial than saloon-bar bragging rights? I stayed away from these on the front brakes on my car after closely inspecting the set of ss ones I had bought, to discover that the threads only engaged by about 1 thread. Not good, so they still rest on a garage shelf somewhere, wouldn't even give them away as I reckon they are dangerous. Not all the glitters is gold. Wilf

| RE: Do braided hoses improve the brake feel ? Strange that Wilf. The elbows that mine were fitted with had too much thread. So much so that it bottomed out at the bottom of the hole in the caliper and didn't seal properly. I did the trully male thing of tightening it. Testing for leaks... tightening it again... snap... "oh bo**ocks" go find another nut. This time make sure it doesn't bottom out.... Job sorted. Regards Vince Time served Auto Electrician Lucas Leeds 1979-1983 |
