My SVA Experience

Hi all,
just thought I'd share my recent SVA test with anyone who is interested - and I managed to dodge all the downpours we've just had (Not fitted my soft top yet).

My car (DAX Tojeiro)was tested at the Birmingham SVA centre, and failed first time round, on some very obvious points, I always intended to carry out a critical inspection before putting it in but didn't. So it failed on:

Front top wishbone locknuts the threads didn't extend through the nyloc part, the examiner said he had seen severa with the same problem, I used supaflex bushes, which may have slightly different dimensions to standard Jag parts, with the original thick flat washer. I just put thiner washers on and they were OK after.

Headlamp height off the ground was below the 500mm required, I had set my ride height as recomended in the DAX build manual and noted the bit on indicator height so bought a pair of SVA indicators to overcome this, but didn't check the headlamp height. No problem just raised the suspension ride height - but having done this I didn't need the SVA indicators - anyone want to buy a pair?

Interior mirror, SVA suction type, I was told it vibrated too much and it may cause mis-interpretation - replaced with a Ford escort type (£1 from a scrap car dealer) stuck to the windscreen.

Rear reflectors didn't have rounded edges - just rounded them off with a bit of wet & dry paper.

The other points were just a couple of bolts where they didn't go through the nyloc nuts and a batery cable I re routed - potential to rub on the gearbox cross member

Not much to have it fail on but frustrating that some of these points were so obvious, my advice, stand back from the build and all the hard work you put in and take your time to cast a critical eye over your car before inspection - take nothing forgranted.

Hope this helps anyone just approaching a test.

RE: My SVA Experience

Freddie,

Thanks for the info. I am a looooooonnnng way away from the SVA test. But am just about to put the wishboes (using SFX bushes) onto the chassis - thanks for the tip I will double check before tightening them up.

RE: My SVA Experience

Funny you should mention that about the wish bones, just having tightened them up today, noticed (well not really at the time, until I read your post) that the bolt doesnt protrude.
Is there a minimum amount of thread needed after the nyloc??

cheers

Ben

RE: My SVA Experience

The bolt needs to protrude just by one thread, on mine I could just get my thumb nail to feel a "click" on the thread sticking through the nyloc, and I mean just it wasn't a visible full turn.
Regards
Freddie
