thermostat housing

On a Chevy 350 I need to point the top hose directly forwards to clear another small outlet that I wish to use for heater. But the only ones I have come accross point up towards the Heavens, Does anyone know where I can get one that points more horizontally (but forwards) if you know what I mean? cheers

RE: thermostat housing

Graham,

GD do one that points forwards, I intend to use it on my engine when I get that far as it reduced the amount of piping required and looks nicer. I think its about £20.

RE: thermostat housing

Graham,
CSI makes a billet water neck that swivels and has an oring seal. Really nice. http://www.csiperformance.com/cooling2.html

These CNC Machined Billet 6061-T6 Aluminum swivel housings are available for 1-1/4",1-1/2", -12AN, and -16AN fitting hose connections and will swivel a full 360° for ease of hose connections in any position. The flange is sealed at the manifold with an O-Ring, eliminating the gasket. Stainless steel hardware included.

I've got one on my sb Ford. Works and looks great.

Graham
there are two types of housing 'directly forward' or of to the 'LHS'
I can not remember which way round it is but one is for early engines and the other is for late (both interchangeable)
I have the angle one on my chevey and connected the heater to the inlet manifold, top rhs of the thermostsat (Edalbrock Performer manifold), as all three outlet in this area are interconected, is this possible as an alternative ?

RE: thermostat housing

Yeah I want to do that but then the only place I can then put the temp take off would be on the LHS which bangs into elbow hose so I would either have to space it up or get one that points forward, (but not to high)

Yes this is true, and I had this problem.
I took the edge off the temp sensor on the lathe and then was able to
fit 90 degree Lucus terminals to the connectors, not mutch room but it does fit and the the connectors look better than with two wires pointing skyward (they just lie along the inle manifold.)

What do you think , do this fit your set up ?

RE: thermostat housing

Cheers steve

Looking at it last night my temp take of will still get clobbered, my sender is on that had to have an adaptor piece to fit into the performer manifold thus making it taller, Is there one that is the correct size as a one piece item. I could make a spacer for housing to sit higher or I could get a forward facing housing and replumb top hose 'S' bend. Does anyone know of a smiths sender unit that fits straight into the performer manifold?

RE: thermostat housing

Graham

the sensor I have in the top of my inlet manfold is an on/off switch
for the electric fans, ie this has two flat spade connectors, I have the sendor unit for the water temp gauge half way down the left hand header just at the bottom of the outlet manifold, this only had one button shaped electrical connector (ie can rotate) for a single lucus spade connector.
neither have adaptor !! go straight into the castings
as far as I know this is ok (engine running but have not had it hot yet)
is this correct - any one ???

cheers
