RV8 Trouble Hi All Have just fitted my RV8 in the Sumo Chassis, but am having trouble getting it to run properly. I hope some of you wise people may be able to guide me in the right direction. The engine is normal 3.5 with a new Edelbrook 500 carb and Mallory dual point dissy from RPi. It starts fine and bursts into life but barely ticks over and dies as soon as any throttle is applied. Timing is 10 deg BTDC, plug gaps are OK, leads are new Magnecore ones from RPi. I have checked all the obvious such as fuel supply, air leaks, vaccum ports etc. I haven't checked the float level in the carb yet or adjusted the Mollory points. Could either of these be my trouble? Thanks for any clues that you clever people might have. Merry Christmas to you all Will

RE: RV8 Trouble "and dies as soon as any throttle is applied." Sounds like the mixture is going weak under throttle. Sorry I know little about those quaint vintage leftovers called carburretors, }( but have you tried stabbing and pumping the throttle to bring in the accelerator pump to see if it will rev with more fuel. If so then it is running weak. If not you may be getting the spark dying under load, put a timing light on to see what the timing does when the throttle is cracked open, it should advance a little. Pretty obviously the points need to be set correctly in order for the coil to have chance to charge properly, they need to be set correctly at some stage so why not do them now? "It starts fine and bursts into life but barely ticks over" Is the coil wired correctly, e.g. is it a 12v coil wired as a 6v with a ballast resistor? It's worth checking. Have you tried altering the timing when it's ticking over to see what happens, as you advance it it should rev a little higher and then die suddenly, as you retard it it should slow down until it dies. regards Kev

RE: RV8 Trouble Will, Try removing the Vacume pipe & blocking off the hole on the carb. Mine had the same problems recently, tick over was fine, stamp on the trottle was fine, but normal driving and it just died. Having tried everything else I removed the Vac line and all was peachy, not had time to play with it yet to fix it though. Rgds Jim
