302 into mk3 sumo

Thanks to everone who has given help and advice so far.now another probably silly question.what way up does the gearbox mount(pilgrim one)go and do you have to fit any spacers and/or drill any holes in it to make it fit.

thanks

RE: 302 into mk3 sumo

HI,

On m y Sumo MK3 the bracket does require drilling, and you will need the gearbox mount which sits in the recess in the center of the bracket.
You need to have the bracket flat against the tunnel rails where the holes are, ie upside down U when looked on the side end.

The easiest way is to roughly gauge where the bracket will end up, clear the holes out in the chassis, using masking tape on the bracket, fit it to the gearbox. Raise gearbox/bracket assembly until the bracket is touching the rails and reach over and mark through the holes onto the tape. Then remove, drill and refit...easy really.

One thing I noticed was due to the orientation of the gearbox, it may not fit exactly square with the chassis as the gearbox output shaft is slightly off center in my set up.

I hope this all makes sense.

Norm

Oh well, done it again!

RE: 302 into mk3 sumo

no problems with how the bracket fits to the chassis now but more a case of how the mount fits to the gearbox and the bracket.the area where the rubber mount fits to the gearbox is totally flat but the rubber mount(either way up) is not,so do you have to put spacers between the metal plate on the rubber mount and the gearbox so you can bolt the rubber mount to the gearbox.

then when the mount sits in the bracket do you have to drill a hole(s) through the bracket, rubber mount,or both x(

RE: 302 into mk3 sumo

I'll try and get a photo on Saturday. The holes predrilled fitted my mount without modification. I just bolted it all together.

Maybe the photo will help to explain it better.

Norm.
