Dash trim piping and the SVA

This may not seem very technical, but as it's a SVA testable item, I think it counts.

I've just been reading some SVA info on totalkitcar.com and something caught my attention as a potential fail point.
It would appear that piping on the lower edge of the dash trim is a no-no as it means you can't comply with the requirement for a 19mm radius on this edge. Seems a bit harsh, trim piping being reasonably soft, but there you go.

URL for the article:
http://www.totalkitcar.com/tkc_article_155.shtml

I've emailed GD as my kit will be ready soon and I don't want to have to re-work or re-order something if it can be made to comply from the start.
I'd asked for the dash-related components to be delivered prior to the rest of the kit so that I'd have something to be getting on with.
Seems I may have shot myself in the foot a little - I just hope the trim hasn't been made yet if it needs to be altered!

Simon.

RE: Dash trim piping and the SVA

Hi Simon.
The GD dash is fully SVA compliant from the word "GO".........Including the 19mm radius.

RE: Dash trim piping and the SVA

Yes, but what I think they're getting at with this one is that if you have this piping in the middle of your 19mm radius, you've no longer got a 19mm radius on that edge, more like 2.5mm.

Otherwise, it would be strange for this item to be raised in a clarification of the standards. Obviously someone somewhere has questioned the standards and that question has been answered....

I've not got the SVA manual, so I can't quote anything.
But, if you're allowed projections up to 3mm (I think) without radius, anything over that being subject to the 2.5mm radius rule, I can't really see how they can fail a bit of soft trim piping if the basic form of the dash conforms to the 19mm radius rule.

Over zealous interpretation over-ruling common sense methinks.

RE: Dash trim piping and the SVA

Hi Simon.
I spoke to Andy Burrows the other day regarding this and he does not fit piping to that edge, i believe that it is double stitched along that edge.

RE: Dash trim piping and the SVA

Cheers Dave!

In the photos I have of GD dash layouts, it seemed that the earlier ones had "proud" piping, whereas the recent ones had recessed piping.
I didn't have any that showed that edge in enough detail, but if it's a stitched edge, we'll all be happy.
Unless some clown decides that the radius of the cotton is too small!

RE: Dash trim piping and the SVA

The inspector at Chelmsford was going to fail my Dax on just that problem, said he had mentioned it to them but still nothing done about it, mine got through, but his attitude was that he has let to many people off and would shortly be doing it by the book, and now you cant put any padding on the only fix is a expensive one.
