Snaped gearstick

I have snapped my gearstick

I'm going to get the stick out and get it properly re-welded. If i undo the 4 bolts holding down the bit where my stick goes in will aload of springs and what have you come flying out or is it a case of just ease out ?

Thanx for and help

RE: Snaped gearstick

Kelvin,

I too have a T5, and previously found some articles relating to it for maintenance etc:

http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...t5/index.shtml

This article shows how to replace the shifter and suggests that you just remove the four bolts holding the plate down.

Good luck.

Tim.

RE: Snaped gearstick

Done this before and shifter comes straight out and nothing will fall or move, didn't with me anyway. 'Glebe transmissions' helped me in obtaining a replacement shifter for my old camaro stick (wooden spoon in custard) they got me a later type which is loads more positive in the throw. excellent company. remember Ford and GM shifters are different bolt hole patterns.

btw How did you manage to break stick? Normally selector rods shatter first??

Graham

if you need a contact no. for them let me know and I'll dig it out.

RE: Snaped gearstick

Thanx graham,

The stick i think was cut and re-welded to place it in a better to hand position, sadly the weld didnt last that well, but i got a friend with a 3 phase welder to rejoin it and now it will never go again at that point reading the web page above, they state that a T5 box can break if slammed into gear, I'm certainly guilty of doing this ( hence the broken bit ) . From now on i'll keep it nice and softly }(
