Heater assembly

Hi all,

Just about to remove my heater box to find out what's making so much noise (fan motor probably), is there anything I should know, any special tricks or things to watch out for. If it is trashed what replacement should I get that is good.

Thanks

RE: Heater assembly

I would have thought a Dax, If that big logo next to his name is anything to go by

The mini heater is normally small enough, but someone who has actually built a dax would give a better answer than mine.

OOPS I missed that. what a plonker! :+

Anyway yes, a mini or metro heater can be used.
assuming you don't want the Dax expensive one.

RE: Heater assembly

I had a mini heater and was making a bit of a noise. Could be bearing in which case buy another but my problem was the vanes/impellors (one each side of the motor happened to be touching the casing or something dont know why, possibly impellors sliding along their shafts due to wear. So after some modification to the casing (bit of bending)got cured.

RE: Heater assembly

Hi, don't know if this is any help, but I was talking to the guys at the south west meet on sunday about heaters and they reckoned that the polo one is miles better than the mini. Apparently once you are over 50 mph the mini heater just blows cold air at you.
Cheers, Neil.

RE: Heater assembly

I've also heard of the Polo heater being used in a number of other kits (yes, other than Cobra's). For some Cobra's they seem to be more popular than the Mini heaters. I'm not sure if they're much smaller, maybe just quieter.

Cheers,
Tony B

RE: Heater assembly

Thanks chaps,

As usual a mine of info, still haven't removed the heater box as it is not quite cold enough yet (Spain south of Valencia), seems to be a bit of a bugger as I will have to pull away my newly fitted interior trim to get at the two lower bolts. Sounds like the Polo heater is the way to go, what about mounting it? There is very little room behind the engine so to drill some new holes might be a bit tricky.

RE: Heater assembly

Sorry Zeb but this is the only photo I have on my computer this is a view of the heater from inside the engine bay. I have none from the inside but can tell you that I cut a hole about 150mm by 250mm. In effect the hole unit is the part that you see in the engine bay. on the inside you just make up a plate to cover the matrix and direct the air flow. will try and upload some pics from a disc as well
