Brake Vacuum Pipe

Hi

Can anyone tell me where I can get the vacuum pipe that runs from the brake servo to the engine.

I have the doner pipe from a Granada but this will not fit onto the Chevy engine whatever I try and do. so I need to increase the diameter of the pipe by the use of a step up adaptor and some larger pipe.

Any adivse on where to go or what to do would be greatfully received.

Many Thanks

RE: Brake Vacuum Pipe

Simplist way is,take the Ford hose to a car spares shop with the fitting from the chevvy manifold and buy a length of hose that fits the fitting and with a bore that goes over the ford pipe.cut a short piece off the smaaler pipe and insert into end of bigger pipe this should clamp up OK on the servo, other end should fit the manifold end.

Steve

What type of hose?? If normal hose, would it not collapse under the vacuum?? I have looked everywhere for a larger bore vacuum pipe but cannot find any. Help

RE: Brake Vacuum Pipe

Graeme,

The hose needs to be oil and petrol resistant and also marked as such if the SVA tester is to pass it. The hose from the Granada should be ok if you can get the fittings to adapt the hose to the new manifold. Have a look at the plumbing section at your local B&Q you may be able to make an adaptor through use of, for example, 15mm to 22mm connector. Sweat ( solder)two appropriate ends of copper pipe onto the connector, two jubilee clips and voila you have an adaptor.

Cheers,

Tony

RE: Brake Vacuum Pipe

Any decent motor factors should be able to supply some.
My local one certainly did.
As already said it needs to be the thick walled variety and fuel resistent etc.
It's also used for air brakes on trucks if you know anywhere that does truck spares.
I put a tapping into the inlet manifold supplied by real steel. The hose fitted straight on.
I also used a plastic pipe from a sierra which included the fitting into the servo and the one way valve. That also fitted inside the hose quite snugly. :7

RE: Brake Vacuum Pipe

Does the examiner need to sse the pipe markings. Mine is the proper type though covered in overbraid.
