| RE: Rover gearbox Paul, first four ratios look correct, I think 5th in most 2WD boxes is 0.792. Frieght Rover/Daf van V8 box has lower 2nd (2.132) and 0.770 5th. It is posible to mess around slightly with 2nd, 3rd and 5th gear ratios because the mainshaft gears vary slightly in different applications of the box and you can basically use any of the available layshaft (solid) sets. For instance 5th gear on the layshaft is bolt on and interchangable between the 36 and 37 tooth version - both run with the same 19 tooth mainshaft/output gear. However, you are stuck (2WD V A benefit of the Daf box, apart from the different ratios, is that it does not have a 'remote' gearchange mechanism but it mounts directly on the rear of the box. This puts the gearlever about 8 or 10 inches forward of the SD1 position. As for changing a Range Rover/Discovery R380 to 2WD - yes of course it's possible and I have done it - but for you I would think it's highly unlikely to be a viable proposition. You will need to change for the 2WD bits (this is just the bits I can remember off hand!) clutch pivot pin, clutch arm, slave cyl, constant pinion/input shaft, mainshaft, gear selector shaft, rear output housing, gear change mech (totally different), rear output flange.
