Red Top Battery

I have the chance to purchase a red top 30 (850 amps) battery, i understand it is 4 yrs old...but used as a spare on a GP Rally car. Is it suitable for Ford 302 and what should I offer for it??

cheers

RE: Red Top Battery

At 4 years old I don't know what life expectancy it will have left in it?
I would check with Merlin or similar to see how long it should last before you commit to buying it unless it's cheap.

You can buy a new good normal battery for under £50 with a three year guarantee. :7

Thanks Kev,

Did what u suggested and they said as long as its been kept charged and not allowed to run dry should be no probs at all and have been assured that its ok...so may take a gamble on it.
thanks again.

cheers

Dave

Redtops are around £120 and they do last for a hell of a long time.

If it is shagged, then you can get a deep discharge done on it.

RE: Red Top Battery

Because its a red top you may end up paying a silly price on it. If you need its oomph as for a high compression rally car then it may be worth it. I'd offer no more than around a tenner as it is a four year old battery and as its has been little used may have problems in other areas. Wilf or Vince may be able to advise you more.

If it were me I would pay up to £75 for a quality brand and achieve the cranking amps appropriate on a new battery with a guarantee.
