Leaking Petrol Tank

The stainless steel tank on my unique autocraft python is em..... leaking rather badly along a welded seam. I have used various products (more recently JB auto weld), but nothing seems to be able to stop it.
I guess I will ultimately have to have the body removed and the tank repaired or replaced. x( Does anyone out there know of someone reasonably local for me who will undertake such a task at a reasonable cost and over a short period of time so that I can enjoy a decent summer out of my rather thirsty chariot?

please help!

RE: Leaking Petrol Tank

I would give your local Custom and Rod shop a ring. Burnham Autos have a great reputation in the custom world and this would be a standard-ish easy job for them if you don't feel it's something you want to do yourself.

RE: Leaking Petrol Tank

You could try giving Rob Whitwell a call - he was one of the partners in the original Unique Autocraft firm and runs an auto repair business - he still works on Pythons occasionally too - if anyone can take a body off and put it back on efficiently he can. Try him on 01371 872 764 - I think he is somewhere near Stansted.

I too am a Python owner - always found them really hlpful even after the demise of the firm.

Good luck.

RE: Leaking Petrol Tank

One ossible think to try in situ:
Drain tank & vent as much as possible for 24 hours or more. Be sure
all fuel has been removed.
Get a large mains soldering iron (do not use a flame under any circumstances) & some aluminium/stainless solder (Radio spares keep this). Slder over the split seem in layers with a final pass to melt
/fuse all layers together.
This works, have carried out various mods & repairs on my stainless tank.

RE: Leaking Petrol Tank

Have you tryed that tank repair that forms a new tank inside the old one? www.frost.co.uk page 23 in there catologue volume 21A £44:00 looks impressive!

Could be cheaper than taking the body off jobbie, to complete a soldier repair or new tank. As pointed out, suicidal to try and weld it Eric

RE: Leaking Petrol Tank

I had already spotted this repair kit, but I believe that the tank still needs to come out to use it. If that is the case, I would rather replace it.

It's currently at the garage getting another temporary repair, hopefully this one will last a little longer, can't stand the wife's Yaris much longer

Thanks anyway.

Contrary Mary

Could I just say it would appear to me, if your forming another tank within, there is no need to take the tank out. that is the whole idea of the plan. Just a thought?

Eric

I am not familiar with this product but maybe you have to remove the tank to slosh the product around inside the tank therefore lining it all.

Just a thought
