| Rear Fog Lights Just wondered on this one - I can't find anything in the SVA manual. I was under the impression that fog lights must only be able to be switched on when the lights are on. Question is, which lights.... sidelights or headlights? I've wired up my loom for testing before I fit it in the car and found that I can switch the fog light on anytime the ignition is on, whether the other lights are on or not. Any ideas (and reference to requirements?) Simon.

| RE: Rear Fog Lights OK so maybe I'm talking to myself here, but I have found a reference in the MOT test that says the fog light should be tested "with dipped headlights on and ignition on", but doesn't say anything about failing if they can be switched on without dipped headlights. So, I think I'll modify the wiring so they can only come on with headlights on. Seems that in the US fog lights go off when headlamps are changed to main beam. Simon.

| RE: Rear Fog Lights If you can use your main beam when driving then it shouldn't be foggy at all! All you would see is a white blanket in front of you, hence no need for fog lights (front or rear). Tony B --- http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tony.breski |

| RE: Rear Fog Lights Tony, Does the Pilgrim loom cater for the fog lamp? havn't got round to that aspect yet as I've still to purchaase a lamp that doesn't require attaching to a nudge bar. Dan ~ http://homepage.ntlworld.com/danny.mann/ http://images.animfactory.com/animat...ood_md_wht.gif |

| RE: Rear Fog Lights Yes it does. There is a green/white wire near the steering column for the switch. At the rear of the car the wire feeds out of the block that is on the offside of the car. If memory serves correctly, it only works with ignition on and lights on in any position. Cheers, Tony B --- http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tony.breski |

| RE: Rear Fog Lights Front fogs? Driving lamps? Whatever! They should be BANNED FROM ALL CARS!!!! They've got to be the most useless, most abused "optional extra" of all time! Makes me feel like fitting a pair to the back of the car - and getting round the SVA/MOT by classing them as "Auxiliary Work Lamps" Give them a taste of their own, etc! Simon

| RE: Rear Fog Lights Simon, Just to confirm the views of some others, the legal position is rear fog lamps should only be operable through dipped headlights. They should also have their own illuminated switch or have a dash mounted tell-tale light. There are also a host of Regulations concerning position, size, wattage etc. etc. This web site might prove helpful : http://www.hmso.gov.uk/si/si1993/Uksi_19932048_en_3.htm Regards, Laner I'm not a complete idiot - some bits are missing! |

| RE: Rear Fog Lights Well If i right in saying that any ordnary road vehicle should have gone though the equilivant of the SVA then i would say that it just has to work with a indicator. My rear fog lamp on my daily driver (Hyundai Coupe) will work even when the the key's out the ignition. and the lights are off. Saying that the front fog lamps only work with the lights on in any mode) This car is late 1998 so it should be up to date with any regulations. Also it's questionable the indicators for the fog lamps. as both front and rear are obsured by the streeing wheel (Worst Design ever). |

| RE: Rear Fog Lights Yup! you definately need a tell tale or indicator light to show when the rear fog is on.
