ENGINE NUMBER

Hi all just got a letter from the Sva people asking who built the kit and asking for confirmation of the age of the engine.
I bought it as a cut out from a v8 sherpa van 3 years ago when the rules of the SVA stated that if an engines age could not be determined the efective date would be taken before cats were needed. This rule seems to have changed.
My problem is all I have to confirm the engine number in relation to age is a recipt from the scrap yard stateting it was a cut out and the date of purchace. The DVLA when inspecting the vehicle have said they dont think that will be good enough.
I have tried to source the number from LDV with it being a sherpa van engine, rimmer brothers and a few other sources listed in the forum with no luck.
Any advice on what type of documentation will be acceptable and where it can be obtained would be helpful as its due for its SVA in the next few weeks.
The number is 25G00001B

RE: ENGINE NUMBER

Andy.

Look at http://www.heritage.org.uk/

If you write to them they will send confirmation of year for your engine, costs £15 and accepted for sva. no problem.Takes about a week.

Tony.

RE: ENGINE NUMBER

Hi,

Anybody had any problems like this with older Chevy cutouts?

If yes what was acceptable proof of year for SVA.

Chris

RE: ENGINE NUMBER

I printed out a load of engine no. Chevy info from the web, and they accepted it no probs.
A recent issue of ST also had engine nos in it that may help.

RE: ENGINE NUMBER

You need to check with the test center where you are going as the one at Derby point blanc refused to accept anything other than official proof, DVLA?,Rover,or the place I went to ( like Tony ) the Heritage Center. :} :} :}

RE: ENGINE NUMBER

Hi all thanks for the advice iv still got my back against the wall though.
Contacted the heitage society and they are unable to help me as the engine is out of a commertial vehicle. Ldv still cant help as they need a reg number which i havent got.
Spoke to the sva people and they cant help. All they will say is the problem is mine and it will require a cat test if i dont supply it.
My last chance is rover who are sending a form out from which i can request details of engine manufacture, but they did say that since it was a supply to another company they may not hold that info so ill just have to keep my fingers crossed.
My test is only a few weeks away so if anyone has anymore thoughts or information i would be most greatfull.
All this to fall at the last hurdle

:} :} :} :}
On a lighter note i had it out for its first blast yesterday. A freind lent me some trade plates so i couldnt resist it. I did over 100 miles then disaster. I came down a hill rather fast and bottomed it out at the bottom, drove the 4 miles home and as i was pulling on the drive noticed the oil presure had fallen to 15 psi. It had lost its sump plug and spilt its guts all over the deck. Boy was i lucky i didnt have any further to go or it might have ment a new engine.
Iv spent most of last night pulling flys out my teeth, it does get a bit windy at over 110mph.

thanks andy rich

RE: ENGINE NUMBER

Andy , your last hope is if the Engine number has been transfered to the V5 some SVA centers will accept this as proof of age for the emissions test. I got the proof required from the Heritage center and never needed it in the end as they took it from the V5. I originally put it on the V% for the age related points ( which they will no-longer accept ) but some SVA centers will accept this. Defiantly a last resort tactic as it is quite risky and completely relies on the testers interpretation of the rules. By the way I did this at Derby.

Best of luck Martin :} :} :} :tu

RE: ENGINE NUMBER

On my chevy engine I have a casting number right, and will be using this for the sva. However on filling in my V55/5 for the registration it asks for an engine id number, usually this is found at the front right on the block, BUT, my block was needed a heavy decking job and was wiped out. So I just put on the V55/5 the casting number and this is the only number stamped on it I can use. My fear is that when local DVLA come to inspect it they may comment on it. which way I don't know.

Antone been in this position or nothing to worry about.
