| SBC Casting number - what emissions test will apply? A novice question.... I have an SB Chevy casting number 3970010 350ci which is shown as 1968-1979 in the David Vizzard book. But because the block has been decked, the engine code number has been removed. What emissions test will be applied and what proof of age will be required by the inspectors? |

| RE: SBC Casting number - what emissions test will apply? Kev/Phil. You will only need the casting no. for the SVA as they only need to varify the age of the engine for emission purposes, you may need to take some documentory evidence of the engines age but the VI in Swansea are more than happy with a printout from http://www.mortec.com If the guys at the SVA test centre are not happy with this info then tell them to call Head Office in Swansea and they will put them right. When it comes to registration you will need an engine no. , if your engine doesn't have one then make one up and stamp it on, sorted.

| RE: SBC Casting number - what emissions test will apply? Do the inspectors date the engine based solely on the block? I have newer cyliner heads (centre bolt) which may cause a problem. |

| RE: SBC Casting number - what emissions test will apply? Hi Brian. The block is all they are interested in, the heads don't come into it. :tu

| RE: SBC Casting number - what emissions test will apply? Right, I have a 3970010 which is as you say, 1968-1979. However the SAME block was also used on the 327, 1968-69 (which is what I will be passing mine off as) though I will utilise the engine id no. (front plate) to back this up. So mine will be a 327 block from 1968-69 but with a displacement of 350 as I have crank rods pistons to make it 350. With me? I will let you know whether this passes next week. If I can provide reasonable proof in support and the tester cannot provide evidence against then there is no question. BYe Graham
