Bonnet / boot gas rams

Hi

Has anyone any experience of obtaining bonnet / boot gas rams. Can I use any from a production car or are these too strong.

Mick

RE: Bonnet / boot gas rams

They will probably be too strong as the steel/glass boot of a car is quite heavy. Get the adjustable gas springs from RS or Farnell, you then let the gas out a bit at a time until they are just right (take one spring off and release gas until the boot bonnet just closes by itself, then swap for the other one and do the same, put the first one back on and it will be perfect)

RE: Bonnet / boot gas rams

I recently purchased some DAX rams and installed them to there diagram on my non DAx car and they fitted and worked a treat. Correctly rated as well. 90N bonnet x 2, 40 N boot x 2.

RE: Bonnet / boot gas rams

I was going to use the boot rams from a Citroen AX. The Citroen has a plastic hatchback which is comparable to the bonnet/bootlid of a Cobra replica.

Have read the other posts, can anyone tell me how expensive the Dax ones are ? and how to mount them to the bonnet / bootlid without stressing the fibreglass ?

Cheers

David

and fitting kit for each is 16.50 (stick vat on that also).

RE: Bonnet / boot gas rams

Could you send some photo's of the rams installed so I can see what the fitting kit consists of and in what position they are mounted ?

Do you know their enxtended and compressed length ?

Cheers

RE: Bonnet / boot gas rams

I RECENTLY FITTED DAXS GAS RAMS TO BONNET & BOOT REALY EASY JOB TO DO,I REINFORCED THE BOOT LIPS AND BACK WINGS BY SHAPING SOME SHEET METAL(ABOUT 10X10 INCH) AND WURTHED THEM IN PLACE, THEN DRILLED THROUGH THE BOOT LIP AND METAL TO FIX THE BRACKETS IT SPREAD THE LOAD AND STOPED THE WING AROUND THE BOOT FLEXING .MAY TAKE A COUPLE OF HOURS SHAPING THE METAL BUT MAKES A MUCH STURDIER JOB :tu
