Powder coating

Has anyone thought about having their engine block powder coated? If so has anyone found a company to do it?

Cheers

RE: Powder coating

I don't think that this is a particle proposition, as for the powder coat to stick, the surface has to be completely clean and free from oil and rust other wise It wont stick and will just peel off. Not too sure if there might be a heat problem as well.

RE: Powder coating

what about engine enamel

http://www.pjhbrands.com/vht/engineenamels.htm

you still need to clean the block up but it gives a good finish.

RE: Powder coating

Andy,

It's a Ford 302. Completely rebuilt by myself. Not started yet so don't say good job (it's my first engine build).

Obviously it is easy to paint when it's all in bits.

Only tip is - Don't rush it!

RE: Powder coating

Cool! If my 302 looks like that Ill be a happy Man!!

Any major issues to wact out for on the rebuild? Have you tweaked it at all from stock? (I notice a nice sparkly set of heads?!)

Cheers

RE: Powder coating

Andy,

Since this is my third engine (third attempt at getting one in the chassis anyway) I didn't have that much money to throw at it but the basic spec is as follows :-

1971 302 block bored +0.030
1966 289 heads (higher compression)
Bearings throughout
Edelbrock Performer Cam
Badger Cast Flat Top Pistons (wanted Kieth Black but no money!)
Cloyes Double roller timing chain
Valves, Springs, Rockers etc. (new top end)
Edelbrock Performer Intake
Oil Pump
Water Pump
Carter 600cfm Vac Sec Carb (manual Choke)

I have gasket matched (opened up) the exhaust ports on the heads to help it breathe too.

If you want any info/help then drop me an e-mail with your telephone number and I'll give you a bell.
