Tyre Sizes

A simple question.

15" Halibrand Rep Wheels
BF Tyres 235/60/15 Back
215/60/15 Front

I want to put a better quality / grip tyre all round on the vehicle.....

What's stopping me putting 225's on the back? (pirelli, Michelin etc)

Would appreciate any advice

Paul

RE: Tyre Sizes

The only things controlling what width tyres you fit to your rims are rim width and clearance of the mounted tyre to suspension and body work components. Assuming your 235s don't rub anything then 225s on the same rims obviously won't. Recommended rim width for 225s is 6.5 to 8.5 inches, as long as your rims are in that range then no problems.

RE: Tyre Sizes

Hi

I found this tyre size calculator on the web, may be useful as overall diameter is important, although changing from 235 to 225 hardley makes any difference.

RE: Tyre Sizes

Paul,

You can still get Pirelli p600 235/60vr15. Check out this url.

Also check out these CR6ZZ Avon tyres in 215/60vr15 & 245/60vr15. Have seen these on real road legal Cobras. A bit expensive though.

RE: Tyre Sizes

I recently went through this pain barrier, and after hours of research I found that I could fit GoodYear Eagle F1s all round. They were the only manufacturer that could supply a V-rated matched set of tyres to fit my rims, which are; 8x15 front and 8.5x15 rear.

The tyre sizes fitted are 205-60-15 front and 225-60-15 rear. They are smaller than the 215 and 235 original (Dax) spec, but they work out to be less than 3% different in rolling radius! You may lose a little ground clearance though.

They look OK and have a cool directional pattern, they're also far superior to the old BFs they replaced, especially in the wet. The other big advantage was the cost, they're loads cheaper and available off the shelf. :tu

Good luck,

Thanks for that. I have an underfloor exhaust, so ground clearance is fairly important. What system are you running?

RE: Tyre Sizes

Just had a look at the Eagle web site.

It's just what I'm looking for - especially in the wet!

I think this will be the way to go

I've got sidepipes, but I do run the car pretty low - I found it helps improve the handling. The lowest point is the oil cooler air scoop where I have about 3.5".

I think I lost about 0.2" when I changed tyres, this should be easy to recover by tweaking the ride height adjusters.

I posted a couple of pics in the Dax Technical section in reply to another question, if that helps.

I really should do mine now before I go for the ferry tonight, we're off to Le Mans now! :tu
