rv8 lucas 2ce ignition

hello all i am new here. i have a rover v8 out of an 83 sd1 it is installed and almost ready to start, i have primed the oil pump and refitted the dizzy, i have the 2ce ignition module and 35dm8 dizzy, does the ignition module have to mount on the plastic insulation as per the sd1 installation or can i just bolt it down and earth the casing to the engine block, also when the ignition is turned on should i have power from the module to the dizzy or is power supplied to the dizzy by the ht lead?? i hope this makes sense, electrics are a bit of a mystery to me! thanks mark.

RE: rv8 lucas 2ce ignition

Hi,

I had the same set up as you on mine, as far as im aware the spacers are to stop it vibrating too much. I fitted mine with them in place. Better safe than sorry. The dizzy gives a small pulse from the hall effect sensor to the module, so there is no power there. The coil is then switched by the module and this is sent to the dizzy via the ht lead, so again you wont measure any voltage without the engine running.
If you want to check youve connected it right, you should have 12v on the coil + terminal. If i remember rightly the white wire that feeds the module should also have 12V on it.
Phil
