Dax ground clearance

Hi folks,

Just checked my ground clearance before taking the beast back on the road after engine/gearbox change and 12 years off the road. The 'chin' under the oil cooler is 3 inches off the deck, no more. I raised the ride height by adjusting the springs on the shocks but now I have 6.5" chassis clearance at the front and 7.5" at the rear, each a full inch above the Dax recommended heights. My front springs and lower mounts are to latest Dax specs. Rear springs still need to be changed but the wheelarch to tyre distance is almost right, just a little high. QUESTION : what is your 'chin' to ground clearance - Dax, Ram, GD, AK, Pilgrim, F***o, ..... Thanks for your replies in advance. IAN

RE: Dax ground clearance

Dax Chassis ride height rear 6.5" front 5.5" as per the manual

Have armoured the chin with a stainless bump guard which also incorporates a lower radiator air dam.

Very low regularly impacts with - humps and bumps - that's why have gone with side exhausts.

Ah the joys.

RE: Dax ground clearance

Mines only 3" so I've added 2 titanium skids to ride over speed humps.

RE: Dax ground clearance

Mines just under 3 inches on a Dax. Ignore this and work to the Chassis heights to a point on the chassis directly behind the wheels.
Mike.

Contrary Mary

Ian, according to Cheng Lim the chassis ground height should be the same at the front as the rear, my Vipers chin is about 3.5 inches clearance. Have rear exhaust but had to take the middle boxes off as they were always grounding out on the humps etc :9 :7 Eric.

Grrr! A fearful noise as Dax and speed hump got 'up close and personal' easing my way through a '20 zone' in the Epping Forest area; these are particularly 'aggressive'; beware! Nerves calmed by a welcome cuppa from Cheng as I called in at Thunder Road and was shown round some of his projects, i.e. Ram with 408w and 289 FIA, impressive!
Damage seems confined to scratching of paint on fi-glass underside of oil cooler shroud (although I haven't got an oil cooler), I have no metal plate covering this as DB pointed out to me that the metal would rip the fi-glass if caught on a speed hump, kerb, etc.

I've just thought, should have opened up and brought in the secondaries; would have taken off and flown over the speed humps ..
