Clutch master cylinder

Hi Guys

I took the GD to Church Stretton today and in the middle of Carding Mill Valley - a popular tourist spot - the clutch slave cylinder piston came right out of the cylinder and dumped all the fluid. Had to call for a recovery truck - most embarressing.

Has anyone else ever had this happen - and how can I avoid it happening again in the future.

By the way its a Repower slave cylinder on a 302 Ford /Tremec

I look forward to your comments

Stuart Kaynes

RE: Clutch master cylinder

Stuart,
It's possible that the domed nut and locknut had worked loose, allowing the slave to be part way along its travel before the pedal was pressed.
This would cause the slave piston to be pushed out of its cylinder as you describe.

Also, it's possible that hydraulic take-up of clutch wear could be responsible. You may need to adjust clutch slave cylinder more regularly.

Simon.

RE: Clutch master cylinder

Stu I have similar set up (SBC to Tremec using the Repower kit. I popped the slave once faily son after I fitted the kit (after I ran over a cat and did an emergency stop with clutch pedal hard to the floor....). I reset the slave and ensured it was fully depressed in the cylinder when at rest. Since then no more probs.
