Exhaust Manifolds / System I'm looking to buy some stainless to manufacture some exhaust manifolds from. What size tube is best suited to a 351 ci engine. I would also like to make the system have a detacheable joint within the engine bay so that a can remove the exhaust. Some exhausts have a quick release mechanism, are these any good, and does anyone know where I can buy the swages / couplings needed to do this. Thanks in anticipation Mick

RE: Exhaust Manifolds / System Hi Mick, I did my own exhaust and found "dairy bends" from Stainless Pipeline Supplies very useful, these are 45° & 90° bends which are a perfect circle throughout there length so no matter where you cut them it is easy to weld them back together again. They also do reducers. For the rest of the system I had my local exhaust outfit make up some meter lengths of stainless pipe swaged at one end. I have used 1½" for the primaries into 2" for the rest of the system; it's an underslung exhaust by the way. SBS are in Oldham on 0161 627 2795, tell 'em your'e building a car they are quite enthusiastic Regards Keith

RE: Exhaust Manifolds / System If the engine is tuned it will need to go into a 2 1/2" pipe min! The headers should be a minimum of 1 1/4" nominal bore. The "dairy" bends refered to in the above ( actually called sanitary or hygeinic bends) are a good starting point but are limited to thin gauges. They are also limited to certain radii. Happy welding! Rgds Roger
