| RE: chevy and gearbox I think Ken might be worth a call at AK, as they do adaptor plates for Getrag i think but im sure somebody will correct me if im wrong. Kelvin GD 383 stroker (For Sale ) |

| RE: chevy and gearbox Yes, AK does an adapter kit for the Getrag 265 gearbox (with detachable bellhousing, 265/6 is the one with overdrive and 265/5 is called Sport/Dogleg 1st.). They can be found in 80's BMW 528i (and up) and in Jaguar XJS... Some other "easy fit" options are: 4 speed: Muncie (M20, M21, M22), Borg Warner T-10, Saginaw, Richmond Super T-10 5 speed: Borg Warner T-5, Richmond Street Five Speed 6 speed: Borg Warner T-56, Richmond Six Speed R.O.D.

| RE: chevy and gearbox Bowtie is the man to speak to For the weight and the power output it is not worth the hastle, i have lost the links but there are people in the states that have got over 400 bhp out of them, but they are in the states where parts are easier to come by. 200 bhp would be a figure you would get out of it, i have read of normal 185 bhp from them £ per bhp go for the 350 block every time, if you have a 305 knocking around and want 200 ish sort of power then its perfect. | RE: chevy and gearbox Kelvin is right. I started out with a 305 because of the regulations in Sweden (max 1kW of power per 10kg weight of the car). The 305 will answer to the same tuning tricks as the 350 but it will cost you more. The 305 is considered small bore/long stroke witch is often held against the 305. I don't get that since a lot of other engines like the Jaguar V6 has the same characteristics without upsetting anyone. Good torque in the low register and less fuel consumtion then the big brother 350. I guess that everyone recommend the 350 over the 305 because it is bigger, easier to build for power and it will cost you less. I am still convinced that you can build a nice 305 for a Cobra if drivability and fuel consumtion is your top priorities. It was fairly easy to get 230 hp out of the one I built... Some useful links if you want to hot rod a 305: http://www.goingfaster.com/spo/290hp305.html http://www.goingfaster.com/spo/325_h...chevrolet.html http://www.goingfaster.com/spo/carcraft325hp305.html http://www.goingfaster.com/spo/343hp305.html http://www.angelfire.com/nb/thirdgen/400hp305.htm Link to a useful forum if you got 305 questions: http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/ But, as we say in Sweden, "much wants more"... They changed the rules in Sweden this year, allowing 1.5kW of power per 10kg weight of the car. I must admit that it was quite easy to convince my self to sell the 305 (with injection and an automatic gerbox) and replace it with a 350 (with a Holley doublepumper and a manual gerbox). I can at least say that I have tried to make it wife friendly, my wife now has to live with the not so comfortable clutch of the 350... I have almost finished the new engine and drivetrain, here is a picture (still with smog tops for the registration, will be replaced by aluminium ones as soon as the car is street legal)... http://www.cobraclub.com/crcforum/user_files/1934.jpg
