RE: Spark plug gaps?

I use a MSD 6AL and when I asked them about plug gaps they recommended .045" gap and NOT to use platinum plugs.

Simon.

RE: Spark plug gaps?

I have the MSD Digital 6 and MSD told me .45 gap.
Also AFR 185/58 heads who recommended Champion RC9YC plugs. I've had it on the road for over three years and it runs great.

RE: Spark plug gaps?

I've been researching a 6AL system for my car.

The MSD blurb says that as a good starting point, gaps should be about 10 thou' wider than stock, then tweaked for best performance as required.

RE: Spark plug gaps?

If you go to Halfords they sell bags of gaps for your plugs, but only in packs of severn.

I've got a whole load or old gaps, could I use them? can I open them up with a screwdriver?
Best thing is to buy two pack and share them with a mate with a V6{-}

RE: Spark plug gaps?

Hi,
its impossible to say what gap is right for your engine, it depends on various things, compression ratio being just one. When i fitted mine i found the best thing was to slowly increase the gap till you felt no improvement then your there. A mate of mines got a very similar engine to mine and his went best at 1.6mm, where as i felt mine was best at 1.4mm.

RE: Spark plug gaps?

Eric,

No; they didn't actually say why. I never asked as it didn't seem to matter. The recommended gap was more important.

On a separate matter; my car won't be ready to collect until next week so I won't be able to make it on Sunday. I have spoken to Ian at GRL Motors this morning and he says my Cobra "is a different car". It is going on his Rolling Road on Sat/Mon to be tuned. It has now got a more suitable/streetable Competition Cams 268 hydraulic cam in it.

Can't wait to get it back !!!

Simon.
