Wheel arch liners

I've still to fit the front inner arches to my Sumo but was wondering whether anyone has fitted production car style arch liners to their Cobra ? These thin but flexible liners would prevent stone damage to the wheel arch and, depending on how you mounted them, make them removable to aid access under the arches when required.

Has anyone gone down this route ? What car arches were used or where can I get plastic sheeting from to make my own??

I thought it might be possible to use trailer wheel arches as a liner, but wanted to check others' thoughts before I experiment.

Cheers

David

RE: Wheel arch liners

Hi David

I used the Pilgrim liners but cut them in two (vertically) and mounted the front section from an bracket mounted on the front overider chassis "ears". The rears are moounted to the chassis rails by self tappers.

Not the best way, but they at least stop muck going inside the body and still allow access when required.

Ultimately, I would like to make up some stainless sheet liners but haven't figured it out yet.

RE: Wheel arch liners

Morning Paul, like the idea of cutting the inner liners in two, do you have a photo you could post so i can see the finished fitted item, i was looking on friday at how to fit mine and felt that cutting them into two seemed the best way :tu

RE: Wheel arch liners

Tony

Sorry I don't have any relevant photo's but all I did was cut up vertically across the thinnest section. This allows for easier manipulation of the liners into the wheel well as well as getting a better fit into the wheel arch.

The rear section can be made to fit relatively well to the upper and lower horizontal chassis rails with self tappers, although some form of captivated nut would be better.

The front sections were mounted off brackets that I bolted to the chassis ears.

I am told that if the liners are glassed in, they offer a bit more rigidity to the wing area of the body. But I was concerned that the liners may produce a ripple on the top surface of the wing if they are rigid.

I had one spot where the fit was a bit tight to the wing and a high spot did result. Thankfully I noticed it quite soon and by repositioning the liner, reduced the tightness and the glass settled back. This is nearly two years after the body was moulded !!!

Any other questions, just ask.
