PCV valve to RV8

I need to fit a PCV valve between the RH valve cover and the PCV port on my Webber 500 carb. The top of the 'neck' that screws in to the valve cover is a bit mangled and can only just hold the hose that currently is clamped to it. Ideally I would like a new 'neck' that I could add a PCV valve to and run a suitable hose to the PCV port on the carb. Is this neck meant to be a flame trap - mine is empty and doesnt seem to serve any useful purpose? If anyone can suggest suppliers/part nos./sizes it would be great. Also - the thin inlet tube on the other valve cover - should it have any filter/valve - mine is just an open tube.

RE: PCV valve to RV8

Brian,

If you look at my build history you will see pictures and an explanation how I fitted the PCV valve to my rocker cover, basically I used the threaded bit from the bottom of the current valve and fitted a PCV valve from real steel inside it.

As for the thin tube yuo will see from the pictures mine is fed into the underside of the air filter.

System seems to work fine.

Regards

Steve

Thanks Steve. Presumably its a stock item from Real steel? Do you have/need a flame trap or does the valve do that job?

Brian,

Real Steel part number BY5553 plus BY97340 Std Grommet.

I have no flame trap fitted, not sure if you need one with the valve fitted.

Steve - could you comment on RPI's advice www.rpiv8.com/faq-carb.htm
(page 6)Why do you get such diverse advice (as against Hastings Filters comments http://www.hastingsfilter.com/engine...tsb_94-2r.html

RE: PCV valve to RV8

Brian,

I had the same questions as you when I started the build, I used the Advice of others from the forum who followed the same advice as the hastings filters link you mentioned.

As you can see I have clean air drawn in from the air filter, across/though the engine , through the PCV valve and into the carb PCV vacumm port.

This system seems to work fine for the other members who have done this, not being an expert on the subject I just followed the lead of others.

The conflicting advice confused me for a while so I also took the oportunity to have a look at other Cobs at the shows etc.. They all seem to use the same setup as I have.

It also took a few questions before I was able to sort out where all the connections for my Offenhauser mainfold went.

Regards

Steve

confusing isn't it ..

Brian, here a open PCV system for you to consider which I made up myself and works well. Draws air in through the two Morsco filer / Breathers at the front of the rocker covers and takes it out the rear Via a valve that is obtainable from Real Steel; inserted into a purpose built block & extracted out the servo connection below the butterfly's runs a shade weak on tick over but does the job better than any system I have seen so far! Thanks Eric - like the shiny bay - think i understand your setup. You could sort the idle with the idle mixture screws? (I'm assuming you run a Webber 500 )

RE: PCV valve to RV8

Well possibly Brian but the idle is just an air bleed anyway, Engine sounds like I have gone up 6 stages on the cam!!!

Brian, no I am afraid not, no Webber for me leased not that type anyway, load of pants as far as I am concerned; Holly every time mate! The likes of RPI rave on as they sell them & them only. I know more people that have taken the Webber off and put the Holly back on than you can shake a stick at!!!!! Ask Russell Ram I think he knows more than all of us put together re RV8's, Eric.
