Tyre sizes

Does anyone have a table showing the maximum and minimum tyre sizes recommended for the various wheel widths?

I am running with 8.5 inch rims on the rear with 235 width tyres. I have been told that this is too narrow and I should run a wider 265 tyre. However, 265 mm equates to nearly 10.5 inches which is 2 inches wider than the wheel !!

Anyone with an opinion or information ?

RE: Tyre sizes

Paul,

go to www.tirerack.com and do a 'search by tyre size' (note correct spelling). If you then go to the 'tire spec' for each tyre it gives you a manufactururs recommended rim width.

RE: Tyre sizes

Look at the Toyo tyres website as it has a chart on there giving you the correct info.

It certainly sounds like 265mm are too wide for 8.5" rims though. My tyre fitter struggled to fit 245/55 x16 Toyo Proxes T1-S tyres onto my rims and he said I should have rims 1/2" narrower. Can't remember offhand though what my rim width is - sorry !

RE: Tyre sizes

Thanks for the feedback guys.

It appears from the link supplied by Russ that the 265 width tyre can be fitted to rims between 7.5" and 10" wide.

It shows that the 245 x 55 x 16 tyres should be fitted to rims between 7" and 8.5" wide. Therefore your rims might be as much as 9" wide !!

Cheers and Happy New Year to all.
