Corroded chrome

Just started fitting my brand new windscreen to the GD and I notice that all along the chrome, there are little specks of corrosion... I'm bl*ody annoyed, since it wasn't a cheap item. Is there anything I can do to prevent these from happening again and removing the ones that are there already?

RE: Corroded chrome

Robin

Shouldn't corrode as they are chrome on brass, if you are not happy I suggest you get it exchanged.

RE: Corroded chrome

It could be that some moisture got in and attacked the chrome. Especially if it has been packed up for a little while.

It does attract the brown stuff. Try rubbing an area with a chrome polish. Leave some of the rust on and monitor, see if it increases If the polished bit gets attacked I might get it changed but I think it is just a characteristic of chrome...

RE: Corroded chrome

Does that work for all the other scratches I've inflicted on the poor car whilst squeezing past it?

There's going to be nothing left if the hangar rash continues at this pace...:}

RE: Corroded chrome

autoglym do a decent metal polish, not sure if its useable on mirror finishes though, autosol do a polish specially for these surfaces i think ive seen it in halfords
my wheels have started to corrode, didnt apply the wheel protector soon enough which i think is autoglym silicon resin polish, might be worth a try at coating with some its by far the best polish out there:tu

RE: Corroded chrome

Hello,

I read somewhere that you should start with 'Solvol Autosol' Chrome Cleaner. Rub it in with a cloth but do not polish it off. Next use 'T-Cut' and rub it in with the remains of the Solvol. Then, polish off as per normal.

The Solvol and T-Cut probably does work, but I would try using just Solvol to start with as it has a cutting agent in it, but is not as harsh as T-Cut.

Failing that, get out the HP Sauce :tu

Ohhhh, the days of cleaning my BMX are coming back to me... :tu

RE: Corroded chrome

Well it wont hide the " oh bugger, just crashed it into a wall" type scratches.

Mak sure hwatever you treat it with is chrome friendly. A lot of polish and make good stuff isn't.

Hangar rash?

You saying it's parked airside? }(

Apparently a Landrover Discovery isn't fast enough to do runway inspections...

RE: Corroded chrome

Solvol Autosol is the business. I first used it on Boneville chrome rims about 3 centuries ago and they are still good.
