Fitting the gearbox and associated parts togther.

Hi,

Well the fun begins now.

I have a Tremec 3550, a Repower bell housing, thrust bearing, Ford fork arm and associated clutch slave cylinder with billet fitting kit.

FYI - The gearbox will be mated to a 350 chevy.

Now has anyone got any diagrams or pictures of the steps needed to get it all fitted correctly. Trying to do this before the engine arrives on Tuesday.

Many thanks

Michael

RE: Fitting the gearbox and associated parts togther.

Hi michael

I used that package from repower, i hav'nt got any pics but i can say it goes together quite well. you will probably have to drill holes on the slave cylinder bracket when you position the slave cyl, i suggest you do this when your engine is attached.
You will need to get the optimum throw from your 'slave cyl', and because the clutch plate etc., is attached to your '350', it all needs to be bolted together.

Genral assembly of all your bit's will become obvious when they are all laid out, having said that........ i've made more than one or two b***S ups by rushing and asuming too much.

regards

RE: Fitting the gearbox and associated parts togther.

Michael, I bought the same kit off Repower 2 years ago. I took some detailed notes from Brian when I collected the gearbox from him and have them typed up somewhere. I have posted as an attachment here . I followed the instructions to the letter and all worked just fine.

One thing to take real care on is the alignment of the bellhousing to teh engine which must be true. You will need a guage to do this. I have one but I live in Germany but I am sure there others closer to home that you could borrow from. I was fortunate in that my engine was also relatively new (from 199 and when I first aligned the bellhousing with the dowels on the engine block it aligned perfectly and no adjustment was needed. If you have on older block that has been rebuilt you might find the bellhousing does not align correctly. You will then need to fit and adjust offset dowels to the engine - I have a set of these somewhere and you can have them if you need.

Good luck and hope this helps. E-mail me if you have probs

The other thing you might do is file a chamfer on the slave cylinder mounting face i.e. across the pad with the 2 bolt holes. When you trial fit everything you will probably see that the slave cylinder actuator rod pushes on the fork lever at a bit of an angle. You can reduce this by transferring the angle to the slave cylinder casting and thereby nearly straighten the whole thrust line from the piston.
