Tyre size v. rim width question

Hi folks, a couple of quick questions for you : what is the smallest width tyre I can safely fit on my 15" diameter x 10" width Revolution wheels? Currently I have 295/55X15 BF Goodrich Euro TA (very old and wooden now) but they do tend to rub on the inner edges of the wheels arches over bumps. I'm hoping that fitting smaller tyres will stop this problem. I have tried inflating them more but the ride gets too hard and they still scuff the 'arches. I seem to remember reading about folks on here with 9.5" rims and 235 tyres!!

2nd question - where is the best place to buy 15"/60 profile tyres these days?

Thankyou. Ian.

RE: Tyre size v. rim width question

Hi Ian.
I've got 255/60s on my 10x 15 revolutions, They are a bit stretched though! nightmare to blow up :} I would think you would be better with 265/60 or 275/60 Both are available from North Hants Tyres http://www.northhantstyres.com/ in either BF Goodrich or Uniroyal
HTH Cheers

RE: Tyre size v. rim width question

Remember the rim width is not the total width, it is calculated actually where the tyre sits I believe?? If so I have 9" rear rims with 235/60/15 and they seem great would like wider ones though what would be the next size is it 255 or 265 and would then the next digit be 55 or 60?? I guess the tyre people could best advise.

RE: Tyre size v. rim width question

A follow on question to the above post.If you go to a bigger or smaller overall diamiter tyre will it alter the performance or speedo set up. Given that for every revolution of the wheel you would have moved further , or am i being thick :}

RE: Tyre size v. rim width question

Ian,

if you change the diameter of the tyre you will also change the circumference, so you will need to recalibrate your speedo. If you have one of the elctronic jobs from Gower Oaks/Speedy Cables/Caerbont all you'll need to do is recalculate the circumference and look in their table for the correct switch settings for the relevant revolutions per mile. If you haven't got one of these, you'll need to send the speedo to them for a permanent recalibration.
