| tremec gearbox help needed hi all in true kit building tradition of trying to stay close to budget (obviouly using the term BUDGET in its loosest possible sense) I seem to have maybe dropped a b**l*k. I am now the proud owner of a Tremec t3650 with 4.6l new mustang GT bellhousing and clutch kit complete with fork thrust bearing speedo sender and rev switch all brand new and shiny. FANTASTIC HOWEVER I need to fit this to my 5L TVRV8 :} :} :} :} (in my defence it was cheaper than a T3550 box only from realsteel) so here is my question What to do? addapter plate- where from? swap the box- who with? change the engine- expensive in the past you guys have been very helpfull to a lot of people on a range of topics, so here's hoping you can come through for me the dream is becomming real de-dion chassis, brake & suspension modules. 320bhp RV8 (ex TVR 5l) tremec box. and lots of switches plugs & fixings. oh! and no dining room. john

| RE: tremec gearbox help needed Hello John. Hope you got a good deal on the 'box etc You will need an adaptor plate. A big issue will be the clutch. Unless the Ford Mustang pressure plate fits onto the TVR/Rover flywheel (unlikely) you might have to move back to a TVR clutch pressure plate. Then it's a matter of finding a friction plate that fits into the set-up. Someone well-worth talking to is Ken at AK Sportscars. He adapts Getrag gearboxes to Ford and Chevy V8s. Not sure if he can do what you need to be done but he will certainly be able to give you some good pointers. Good luck! |

| RE: tremec gearbox help needed John, thinking about this a bit more, you'd do well to hang onto your original TVR bellhousing and clutch kit. I think it would be very difficult to use the Ford bellhousing and clutch, if not impossible. But you should be able to sort an adaptor from Tremec to TVR bellhousing/clutch easily enough. You may be able to sell the unused Mustang bits. Still worth giving Ken a call though. Cheers. Ian. |
