Sidepipes

Hello all!!

I'm looking to get sidepipes for my Mk2 Sumo, for the simple reason that I can't stand it each time I drive down the crap Southampton roads, my exhaust scrapes. Also, I have a longing desire to drive over speed humps!

I'd like to know just how complicated it is (cut holes in fibre-glass, attach pipes, re-tune...?). At the moment, I'm inclined to drive to Pilgrim, and get them to do it for me!

Also, any idea how much money I'd be parting with?

Any help much appreciated!

Cheers

Jules

RE: Sidepipes

Hi
A lot depends on what engine you've got.If its a Chevy V8 then pilgrim do all the bits you need.If its another V8 then they don't.They only do the sidepipes. It all depends on how much you want to spend.Sidepipes can go from 120.00 a pair (from america) to 800.00 a pair (here) depending on what you want. Then a set of manifolds (custom made could cost well over a grand. If you've got all the bits then actually fitting them is not that difficult.

Sidepipes

Thanks Gareth

I've got a 3.0 Ford engine, which I thought was fairly common. What are the chances that manifolds are available off the shelf?!!

Am I right in saying that some amount of tuning is required, as there is when the exhausts are installed in the first place?

RE: Sidepipes

Hi Jules,
I think Pilgrim do a set of headers for the 3.0 Ltr Ford but not sure what they flow like.Give Tony a ring on that one but it shouldn't be that hard to build a set for that engine.I built mine for a Ford V8 and they wern't that hard.As for sidepipes it pays to shop around I got mine from www.summitracing.com (in America) for $189.00 and the shipping and import tax was about $100.00 but it was still much cheaper than anyone over here.As for tuning much depends on your current set up but you shouldn't require much more than a different set of spark plugs and maybe a set of main jets for your carb.

RE: Sidepipes

Gareth,

COOL - thanks for the link ! What pipes did you get from them ? How long should they be for a Cobra ?

RE: Sidepipes

Hi
I got the Patriot side pipes (were $189.00 when I bought them).I can measure if you want but I think they were the 50" ones.Came with all the bits just had to fabricate some brackets to mount them (easy).Run up at weekend with them on.Very nice exhaust note.

RE: Sidepipes

Gareth,

I found them... PTE-H1050 is the partnumber at Summit.
Would you mind posting a picture of your car showing them here ? I want to see how they look on the car.

Thanks,

Michael
