Which brake discs?

Ok, Building up the parts list for an order.

Which brake discs are recommended for the front and rears? Car will be used on the road, may go on the track nce in its lifetime if Im lucky!! Ford 302 with RPM package.

Do I need drilled and grooved or will just vented do? Or do I put grooved on the front and vented on the rear?

Also any advice on value for money suppliers?

Any help welcome!

Got to go and stand in a field looking at trees, shrubs and plants today! Oh Joy!

Cheers

Andy

RE: Which brake discs?

Hi Andy, bog standard XJS discs will do the job very well even on the occasional track day. You could use EBC Green Stuff pads as a bonus but not really necessary.
The point is that the standard brakes were designed to stop a two ton Jaguar from 150 mph.
So a Cobra weighing only half of that is easy for them, don't waste your money on the fancy drilled vents etc, they may look cool but are unecessary and you'll stuggle to get them warm on cold days.
This very advise was given to me by a fully qualified brakes development guy that I know.

RE: Which brake discs?

Kev,

thanks for that, so just the bog standard replacement ones listed in Wards catalogue then. Sounds good!

Cheers

RE: Which brake discs?

but then you can have EBC spottie/vaned for near enough the same price - a much better disc all round. Vanes/spots allow gases to escape under hard braking. They passivated so they don't go rusty etc. Green stuff pads are a very worthwhile upgrade - work better than std from cold and don't make your wheels black from brake dust.

RE: Which brake discs?

Fair comment Russ, as the prices aren't much different, I know what you mean about the brake dust it's a bast**d to clean off.

RE: Which brake discs?

Andy, good luck with the build. I used standard 4 pot Jag front and standard rear set up for several years without any issue. Then I changed to cross drilled front with EBC green pads on the front and there is an improvement as Russ notes below.

RE: Which brake discs?

Hi Andy, had noticed that Ward Engineering are doing cross drilled discs in their special offer section for £98 a pair inc VAT!
