Sidepipe advice - again !

I am looking to replace the exhaust system on my 1991 Dax Cobra, which is fitted with a Rover V8 engine - particularly the manifolds. I have attached a picture of the offside manifold, and this is the better of the two ! Sidepipes are O.K. but chromed and I would like stainless steel, or better. I know that there have been quite a few questions about exhausts, including some recently. But can someone recommend the best set-up to use for a RV8– I can get stuff from USA if needs be. I believe that Kev has considerable exhaust experience.

Cheers,

Wires

RE: Sidepipe advice - again !

Hi wires,

have a chat with Roger from www.shinybitz.co.uk he does excellent quality (and good value compared to the rest of the crowd) stainless exhausts. He making me some side pipes as we speak, nice big repackable ones
If you do a search for dax side pipes you get a few topics with piccys as well...

cheers

RE: Sidepipe advice - again !

First you need to start some nice flowing headers, you may have to make them or have them made, to suit your car.
You don't want to go too big or you will have detremental efect on gas flows.
As Ben there are lot of options for side pipes around including Shiny Bitz and custom Chrome. Or Summitt Racing you can buy all the bits and build your own if you have the technology.
I personally like these from the states as per original S/Cs.

Russell Ram has a set on his very nice too.

Lucky he doesnt need to bother with the SVA also, can get some straight through pipes with no baffelling (oohh my god its sooo loud!)and a nice sharp cut at the end (none of this pissin about with curvy edges!) :tu

RE: Sidepipe advice - again !

Thanks very much chaps. I suspected Kev would know, and your experience is useful too Ben. Just spoke with Roger at ShinyBitz, who was very helpful. I was just going to get the manifolds done, because a mate of mine is thinking about getting titanium boxes (for £1,500) on his 4.8 L Dax Rush, so wants to sell his pre-SVA Dax Cobra sidepipes. However Roger will custom build and fit the complete system for £1,650 or just the manifolds for £700. I suspect that I'll go for the system.

Cheers,

Wires

P.S. Yes, I reckon that I am very lucky not to have to worry about SVA - foux, tout le Monde.

Re: Sidepipe advice - again !

Dear Ben,

How is your system progressing ?

I have booked my RV8 Dax in with Roger for an exhaust system starting 14th June. I just pray that the car makes it to Nottingham without breaking down !
