Hi Robert
Sounds if things are moving along nicely. Did Ebay take payment from you then they paid the seller or did you pay the seller direct? How much was your shipping and who did you use? cheers

You have to have confidence in your seller and know exactly what you want to buy. For instance, do you want a stock set up? If so buy the camaro item and run it as it comes with the t56 and existing ecu. If you want a vette motor then be prepared to junk the throttle assembly and find a camaro throttle body and maybe change the ecu as well. You will then need to find an ls1 trans and slave cylinder. It can get complicated so do the research first and choose later. The vette is fly by wire and transaxle (not a lot of use to most people). If you are planning on serious upgrades later then bank on an aftermaket ecu ie DTA and start with a long block only otherwise you will be ditching a lot of parts. If it gets complicated then give me a call if you like.

Boost it, if you can!

RE: buying LS1

Hi Robert, I was trawling through the board looking for information on importing an LS1 or even LS6 from the States. I am looking at doing the same thing, as they seem cheaper over there. How did it go, How much were the shipping costs?

Cheers

Nick

RE: buying LS1

It went very very well, shipping and duty came to about £1000.

RE: buying LS1

Hi there.......i am new to this forum, but i too am looking at importing a LS1 from the states...found a few people over there that will gladly send one over, but i too have to now do a bit of research in to the engine?,,because until last week i had never heard of a LS1,so if anybody can advise on what to look for, that would be great...i have noticed that a few dealers over in the states sell the engine complete with 6 speed box,is this worth having or not....is this the box you call the T56?...
ps,how long does it take to ship from the states?..

RE: buying LS1

Jiz,

Speaking to Andy at GD, I was told that the T56 manual gearbox (6-speed) that comes with the engine is fine, but not for racing. Actually sounded ideal for me, because the top ratio means you are virtually idling at motorway speeds.

Buying the engine and gearbox assembly will save a lot of hassle because you don't have to find bellhousings and so on to fit.

Basically, if it is a good deal with the gearbox, then go for it, otherwise, you can get another gearbox separately...

RE: buying LS1

Hi
I took the plunge and bought one off Ebay and it is pretty straight forward. You want to get as much off the donnar car as possible ie engine/ gearbox, ECU harness. exhaust manifolds. I found it's safer to buy off a dealer as they can pallet the engine gearbox which makes transporting far easier and safer.Air frieght is not as costly as i first thought and is very quick. If you enter LS1 into your search engine you'll find laods for information on the LS1 engine, if anything that one of the problems the engine is so new over here you are constantly learning about it.
