routing front loom

just a quick question?....what is the neatest way of routing the cables for the side repeaters?.....do you take them back along the inner arch or along the wheel bay?.....also where do the cables come through for the washer bottle ETC......:tu

RE: routing front loom

The wiring for the side repeaters is intended to run along the top of the inner wing side of the wheel arch, when using the standard GD loom. I did mine slightly differently though.
See attachment 1.

The wiring and washer tubing etc comes through the bulkhead centrally, as low as possible.

View from above the bulkhead, you can see the washer jet tubing, wiring and oil pressure gauge line going through the hole.
You can see that I have fitted 2 twin washer jets, but most people tend to fit only 1 central twin washer jet on the GD.
See attachment 2.

View from the interior, you cannot see the hole through the bulkhead due to the wiring loom being in the way. However you can see the washer tubing, t-piece and non-return valve.
See attachment 3.

Simon.

RE: routing front loom

Very helpful pics Simon, thank you. I'm just planning my wiper/washers at the moment. I've seen a 1.2 ltr bottle in Holden with integral pump which looks similar to yours,£25. It says to use 4mm tubing then when you look at what they sell they have 1/8th and 3/16th! Where did you get your bottle from? What do I need? Tubing,1xTee-piece,1xnon-return valve, 2xjets. Anything else? Did you use single or double jets? Lots of little questions! Maybe more in the future if you have the time to answer. Regards, Trigger.

RE: routing front loom

Hi...i got my bottle from GD...but i bought the washer jets from Holden..."double ones"...but the hose they need is 4.8mm,and the T piece i bought was for a 4mm hose:} ....so i will try to look for some nicer plastic jets as these look crap...but they are needed for the SVA....if you find some decent ones let me know..

RE: routing front loom

My washer bottle was supplied by GD.
All other washer accessories came from Halfords.
The washer jets are double-nozzle type. Much better wetting of the windscreen than one double-nozzle type in the centre, and the screen wash water doesn't get used up too quickly either.

The Halfords jets have two flats on them, but they pass SVA as that part is a "non-contactable edge".

I think all my washer components were for 3/16inch tubing, but I can't help you with Halfords part numbers as I can't find the receipt for these items.
I used some of the spare washer tubing as spacers for the side louvre fixings, so the bore must have been over 4mm. 4.75mm or 3/16in sounds right.

Trigger, your shopping list is correct.

Simon.

RE: routing front loom

Thanks Simon. So I've got the list of things. Best thing would be to go to Halfords first to see what they have. If they have a bottle well I'll get all from there. I do have a bottle but the integral pump is bad so they may have a replacement.

RE: routing front loom

General washer bottle tip.....
You'll find many of the Japanese vans (Isuzus etc., & little Bedfords have nice little washer bottles that live in the passenger footwell, have lived righteous, dry clean lives (not in an engine bay) and are designed for flat mounting not the bespoked curves of some odd wheel arch. Cheap as chips from scrap yards
