Kit choice

I am just about to take the plunge and order a GD Jag, but would like to know what made you guys opt for Gardner Douglas ? What was it about the GD that made you choose one ?

Thanks

RE: Kit choice

for me the chassis design steered me towards gd,and also when visiting the factory the general build quality of the whole car.
The panel gaps are all nice and even and panels solidly made, and generally the shell is excellent with virtually no flexing on wheel arches etc....

Chassis design and construction.
Body design and construction
Service that I got then and has continued.
Lots of things just added up.

RE: Kit choice

i opted for the GD for one simple reason.......it looks right.....
from an engineering point of view the chassis looks great, and is very capable......and most of the time if it looks right it usually is.....:tu

RE: Kit choice

Apart from all the above.
The boss Andy really cares. I think I have phoned him and visited GD more than everyone and always without fail no matter how stupid the question everybody has gone to the limit to help me.
I think I logged over one hundred calls to them during the build!!

I had never even changed the oil in a car before building the GD and still managed it.

Everything fits. Like varnish it does what it says on the tin!!!!

Go for it; you only live once.

Stephen

RE: Kit choice

Thanks for the feed back, I must say I agree with your comments about Chassis and body panels, I have heard that the gel finish is better than most as well. Someone told me that you hardly ever see a built one for sale - so either there aren't many about, or people hang onto them. I think it's the latter?

I like the idea of being able to remove the body, as when I (inevitably) start tinkering with the engine it would certainly make it a lot easier to get at.

I am convinced that a GD is the way to go...... except for the issue of side pipes. I have read many views on this subject and still have a hankering for them - just for the pose value I suppose and because they seem to visually lower the car etc. BUT are they really worth the hassle ? Have any of you installed sidepipes ? If so how did you do it and should I bother or not.

Rob's comments about being deafened by sidepipes and the under chassis exhausts sounding better etc. have almost convinced me to go the underslung route, (also because I saw a Cobra in Frimley last Saturday and it looked great - and no sidepipes! - was that any of you ?)

Cheers

RE: Kit choice

I spoke to Andy yesterday, and he mentioned that sidepipes have always been an option on the GD.

They did one back in 1995.
