Oil cooler thermostat and pipework

Hi
Just about to install the oil cooler; has anyone any photos of the position of the thermostat on a jag based gd; and what route from there to the oil cooler.
Many thanks

RE: Oil cooler thermostat and pipework

sorry paul I have no photos, but on my ford engine the take off plate faces so that the hoses exit towards the front of the car and find their way to the front round the side/bottom of the rad on the pass side, the hoses are just about a perfect length to place the cooler in the lower front cut-out below the rad and the hoses have been clipped to the inner flexible wheel arch section, but are quite a tight fit around this area:tu

Thanks for the info; but did you make the bracket for the oil thermostat or get it from GD.
Paul

Hi Paul you need to look at the website at www.thinkauto.com

Click on products and you'll see various things. They do a take-off plate with built in thermostat. Fits on the filter head. If you want an inline 'stat they do those. A good place to mount would be on a bracket installed using the bolts that hold the upper rad mount to the front of the Chassis. I mounted my remote oil filter there. Saved drilling holes in the chassis. I used aluminium angle for the bracket. Hope this helps. Trigger.

Thanks
I like the way you mounted it on the rad bracket; will try to do same.

Am just about to buy an oil cooler to run on the GDJAG; last year the oil got too damn hot (even though it was an exceptionally hot Summer). Did you buy the kit from GD or elsewhere? I think elsewhere judging from a previous post. If so can you let me have a list of the parts you bought.
Why did you mount a remote oil filter?
A few questions I hope you have the time to answer
Regards
Stephen

RE: Oil cooler thermostat and pipework

Hi Stephen, sorry about the delay in replying but I have been in transit coming from work. Firstly I don't have an oil cooler fitted just a remote filter. Reason is I'm running an RV8 and in the normal position the filter would foul the chassis. Bonus is the filter is easier to change up above. No need to lie under the car. Second thing the cooler set up is easy with the set up I have if I want to do it. May do in the future. I bought all the parts from Mocal/Thinkauto. The guys there are very knowledgeable and helpful. If you're running an RV8 I can tell you the part numbers I used. I used stainless braided hoses with JIC -10 fittings. Look better and more secure than push on hoses with hose clips. Be careful when measuring these hoses. You need to know the bend radii of turns and be sure you order enough length. Anything else you want to know shout up I'll try to help. Trigger.
